    Peugeot 407 2005 1.8L petrol 140k miles.
    5w/40 Fully synthetic is recommended.

I have used 10w/40 semi synthetic before as its cheaper but it does burn off fast.

    Will 5w/40 last longer.

What do you guys recommend ?

I recommend you use the oil that is recommended by the manufacturer. Don't try to cut corners and save a few euro with cheaper stuff. It will come back to haunt you.

Dont treat it as gospel, but this is a handy site:

If you are meant to use Fully Synth, dont use Semi! The otherway around is an option, but not if Fully is the spec.

What do you mean by will it last longer?? ... Is your car burning oil?

Oil changes should be carried out within specific time or mileage intervals.

Oil will "last" in your engine indefinitely if you don't change it, so how long it "lasts" shouldnt matter.

Changed it within the specified time/mileage intervals using the oil which is recommended by the manufacturer for your type of engine :)

Its likely that its burning off because you have caused wear on your engine by using the wrong oil.

What ever wear is there now you have to run with it as changing to a fully synthetic oil now could possibly cause more harm then good.
