    refurb or build from scratch?

there are a million kits available.... stewmac have all the parts to assemble but you'll pay a bucketful...

there are cheapo kits on ebay that CAN be finished very well with quality electronics...

Just be aware if building from scratch, you will either need to be very skilled with hand tools or need a lot of power tools(can be quite expensive)

I had started a project to build a v before and got stuck when it came to the neck.

Also check out My Les Paul Forums(Les pauls building mainly, some other builds too) and

TDPRI(mostly tele builds but some good tips/

I built a Strat and a Tele before but I used a pre-built neck from stewmac both times. Didn't have a lot of the precision equipment needed to make the neck and end up with a playable guitar.
