Hey folks. Cant seem to make my mind up here so I would love some input. I am looking to buy a 2nd lens for my D7000. Currently only have the stock 18-105 on it. What I am between is:
    Nikon 40mm 2.8 macro
    Nikon 35mm 1.8
    Nikon 50mm 1.8
    All DX g lenses.
I am looking for something sharper for portraits and the likes. Purely a hobby. I am not particularly looking for a macro lens per se, but Its quite sharp and currently at a good price, so its on the short list

Anyone want to throw in their opinion?
    Many thanks :)

If it was me. The 35mm hands down. And just leave it on the camera forever. The 50mm is perfect for portraits but i find its too close for getting a small group in the shot. I have had great "nights out" photos in low light with the 35mm.

35mm all the time, great lens for everyday use and night/indoors.

look at the 500mm no dx... better long term investment, better optics too

I have the 50mm 1.8, great for portraits and low light. The only drawback is as someone mentioned you may have to take a few steps backward to get a large group in. If i didn't have the 50 i would go for the 35.

Thanks folks, I was sort of pulling for the 35mm, and this has nailed it.

I would be tending to agree with melekalikimaka here. Going the FX lens route means you are future proofing your lens collection. Apart from the obvious benefits of the FX lens on a DX body.

    50mm or 35mm.
I have 50mm and I love it. BTW if you decide to go for 50mm you should consider older D version of this lens, it's just as good and its cheaper, bought mine for 105 euro brand new.

    Thanks all.
I got the 35mm on Sunday. I am not too worried about future proofing for fx, so that wasn't a consideration.
I love the lens. Was playing with it a bit and its pin sharp.
    Thanks again.
