    Hi,
I was thinking of dropping a CV into a Tommy Hilfiger store today in hope they'll have a sales assistant position and I was wondering if anyone has any tips? I'm going to ask for the manager and ask if they're hiring and hope that he takes my CV. I don't have a ton of experience in retail but I have some good references from working in a tourist destination! Does anyone who works/worked in TH know if they typically hire in January?
    Any tips welcome!
    Cheers

Nobody hires in January- it's the worst time of the year in retail, when all stores are cutting back hours to the contract minimum and letting go all or almost all of their Christmas staff, when a few years ago they'd keep a good portion of them. I have only ever worked in extremely busy department stores- and it is the same for them, so is only going to be worse when you go all the way down to luxury retailers.

That is not to say that there's absolutely no hope of it, it's just the general rule. Typically, good times to apply in retail are April-June, and then again August- October/November.

By all means go in, just be prepared for a negative answer and non-acceptance of your CV! If you're looking for a job, you would really need to broaden your search beyond one store. Unfortunately, in the case of luxury retailers, I have found that they want experience which has to be from luxury retailing. It's always worth a shot, but best to be realistic.

I hate to say this, but if you are very pretty your chances of being hired are much higher.
