specialized have some nice bikes too around that prices, maybe worth looking at.

I got a Specialized Allez for just under €800, first road bike and I love it.

The guys in the shop were great (Buckleys, Tullamore). They spent time helping me find the bike that suited me best for my budget and then set it up to fit me properly. So I think the best advice is to go to a good shop with an open mind and see what feels best for the money you have to spend. Then enjoy!
