Hi all. I am planning to visit a friend of mine down in Roscommon and I need a few pointers to help me along the way. :)

I will hopefully be travelling within the next week or two. I will be getting the train from Heuston.

I am wondering what are the best places in town to stay in in terms of value for money. I've heard great things about Gleeson's Townhouse, so that is a possibility. I was also wondering if there are any buses running that go towards Castlecoote, or if it is within walking distance from the town.

I'm a very quiet guy and suffer from an anxiety disorder as well as depression, and I am trying to gain confidence by travelling alone. :)

Any help would be appreciated, and reccomendations of what I could see and do in the town would be great.

Castlecoote is too far to walk but only ten mins by taxi from Ros Town. Maybe someone knows of a bus.

Thanks for the reply. Where would you recommend a place to stay? Are there any B&B's in the town? Is there anything to see or do around town? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to be prepared before I go down. :)

Jacksons Restaurant in the square do rooms. Not sure of the price but the rooms are nice and its in a perfect location. Across the square from Gleesons I'd say both of them are similar prices.

You're aswell to stay in Gleesons. It's central, rooms are lovely and the food's great.

As Biko said, taxi is your best bet to Castlecoote and you can go in your own time. Do you want me to Pm you some taxi numbers? Then you can have an idea of prices before you come!

It's a buyers market so price around

Abbey hotel - leisure centre , pool etc close to train station

Hannons hotel - about a mile walk to town

As above Jacksons + right outside is a taxi rank

    Best of luck anyway

I would go with Gleeson's or Jacksons, whichever one you get a better deal with. Both are in the Square and beside the taxi rank.Hannons is a bout a mile outside the town so will be wasting money on taxi's and the Abbey is about a ten minute walk into the main street with nothing else really in the near vicinity.
