Decent price, although I'm guessing technically it won't be a 'Freesat' receiver built into it i.e. it won't get the 7-Day EPG, but instead will be one of the generic satellite receivers, or FreeToAir.

You're more then likely right but when you consider a stb with sat and digital terrestial is usually bout €100 it's quite a good price

Yeah as far as I know freesat is only marketed in the uk and that Irish retailers generally don't sell them, online from uk is generally the only way you can get it.

Freesat is as good as it gets, better EPG and recording than Sky as far as I'm concerned and better picture quality too (subjective), you can watch channel A and record channel B and C also most of the time.
    Oh, and subscription free!

    Cheers for that info.
    Which box would you recommend?

Right re. the Freesat EPG. Title of thread a bit misleading as It doesnt claim to be Freesat (UK Free Satellite Service with 7 day epg localised BBC/ITV based on postcode. Look for the Freesat logo) but rather free to air. Same channels but only now and next on the EPG. Only LCD also whish is a bit yesterday's technology as LED is the more favoured and energy efficient screens. Smaller screen TVs with built in satellite tuners are unfortunately quite rare and limited in range.

Thanks. I'm aware of the humax boxes, I'm hoping for a cheaper option to appear sometime! :-)

Plenty of cheaper Freesat branded boxes - Echostar, Bush, Sagem, Samsung, Goodmans & Manhattan Plaza. Humax is the one to get though & a good 2nd hand unit can be had for less than €150 on ebay or AVForums classifieds. Far less again if you don't require a recording function.

Thanks, I actually bought the folks a combo box recently. Nice unit, but the recording function leaves a lot to be desired. They really can't get the hang of it. I understand the humax is great for recording, so I'll look into options based on your suggestions above.
    Cheers.

Going the route of a separate box, the Amiko Alien2 is a cracker - with the Enigma2 image. See separate thread

However, all in one TV's are very rare now but very handy having one remote for both systems.

While I have both, the box now wins hands down because of all it can do.
