Need a little advice regarding €/acre

I have 3 acres of land and someone has approached me and asked if they could leave two horses in there for a year to graze etc. They said they would pay me whatever I thought was fair.

Truth is I have no idea how much I should charge them per month. What would you guys (and girls) recommend? Its good grazing land.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would stick him for 100 a month and see how he takes it.

Its up to yourself but why should you give it away for less, if its well fenced and water on it i think its worth it.

Horses will wreck regular fence , keep that in mind when agreeing a price, I've seen the fu#kers using high tensile sheep wire as a ladder to get at trees

From letting out land I know (sometimes) lads with horses will not have the farming equipment ie.tractors etc to keep the land in good shape....spread fertiliser, rolling it etc. Also if he's only taking it for the year he won't be too fussy about keeping it right for next year! He'll probably have the horses out on it all winter and it'll be plenty reddened come January next year!!

Having the lease only till November 30th a good idea we find as land can't be reddened too much and will be someway right come January. We've agreed a price of 185 pa for 30 acres with a farmer who takes good care of our land. Local Auctioneer reckons it'll be up around €200 pa this year generally.

Hope that gives u some idea of prices. I'm no expert but I'd be looking for somewhere in the region of €800 the year for three acres all thing considered, if its good land as you sayI reckon that'd be a fair price to be getting. Make sure it's a decent lad who's taking it though! Money won't comfort you if the land will be wrecked!!

The way I look at it is if you keep horses you should be able to afford the costs of keeping them, pay for grazing, feed, vet, etc, if a person cant afford them they should get rid of them . if people give away grazing too cheaply cowboys will park they horses there and forget about them, my advise is rent it by the month not by the acre and collect it every month.

100 a month sounds decent enough.had a few horses in sheds n a paddock last year n was glad to get rid to be honest. if he's got a few quid fair enough but a lot of lads with horses have no dough n dont know much about looking after them - hooves, worms etc.
oh and make sure 3 dont become 10!
