Just been made redundant. Have been told I am to get €342.60 per week for myself, my partner and my child. We have just under €10,000 in savings. Could anybody advise if we qualify for a medical card. My partner has a condition where she has to pay about €50 per month on prescription charges so if we qualified it would be really useful.

    Thanks

    Income Allowance for a couple is 266.50 + 38 for each child = 304.50 (for under 70's)
these are just guidelines and your 10k savings won't matter as your well under the limit.

APPLY APPLY and state your medical needs and expenses, also

According to the HSE's guidelines, if your income is derived solely from Social Welfare allowances or benefits or HSE allowances you should be granted a medical card even though your payment is in excess of the Income Guidelines for your age and situation.

The assessment of a couple for medical card purposes is based on the age of the older person.

    Good luck.

new income guidelines are coming through according to the news recently , and it will be harder for new applicants to qualify.

However , no-one can answer your question , and the only way is to apply , and give them all the information necessary to help your application , regarding financial matters / medical matters

If your only form of income is social welfare you will qualify for a medical card and you can have 72000 in saving
