Tributes are pouring in for a young Polish mother who has passed away, after she captured the hearts of Limerick people late last year.

Twenty seven year old Marta Salacka had been living in Castleconnell and Limerick city for nine years when she was diagnosed with leukemia and given just months to live.

Marta wished to fly home to Poland before she died but needed 20,000 euro for a special medical flight and following an appeal on Limerick's Live95fm, more than 40,000 euro was raised.

Marta passed away on Monday in a German hospital.

Her friend Laura English made an impassioned plea last year for help to raise funds for Marta's return home. (live95fm)
    That’s sad news.

Fair dues to all the people who supported her.

Aye. Any young person dying is a big loss. Glad she got home so at least her family could be with her for her last few weeks.

Stories like this put what most people consider "problems" in sharp perspective.
    Condolences to her family. RIP
