Petition not to replace BBC 1 HD with BBC 1 NI HD on UPC

That would be a disaster that would make me physically sick if it were to happen.
Having had to put up with the parochial bulls**t on BBC 1 NI on UPC for many many years, it was a major relief and shot in the arm to get the region free BBC 1 HD last year.
The 5:00 PM Sports opt out every Saturday used to annoy the hell out of me as well as numerous other opt outs and bible bashing flag waving political crap.
Please don't do it. I don't want it.
    Anybody agree?:)

BBC NI is for NI not the ROI, that's the way I look at it, its something I was delighted to get rid of with FTA/Freesat.

I doubt UPC give a **** though, they should offer a choice but won't.

Is this something that's going to happen? Would prefer to keep it as is!

I think once the Beeb switch off the region free HD version (Which they will once they roll out the BBC 1 HD regional versions), UPC will have to put a regional BBC 1 HD there in its place.
I would strongly hope that would be BBC 1 London HD.

As interesting as BBC NI programming is, I too prefer to see a more UK focused BBC channel. Local programming is fine if you live in that locality, but it's meaningless to us. We miss out on too many network shows due to opt-outs. I would be more then happy with BBC London and ITV. Loosing BBC NI and UTV would be welcomed.

Why would you want Mickey Mouse when you already have Walt Disney??

Not by rugby fans it wouldn't, we'd lose the BBC"s coverage of the RaboDirect Pro 12 and any Ireland games that are not networked.

To be honest I don't think a move from NI to London for BBC One (SD) is going to happen. It would be against the spirit of the MOU (not that its worth the paper its written on) and I think would deprive people in the Republic of the only Northern media outlets which are distributed here. If you're **really** that annoyed about the classified football results not being broadcast, Sky Sports News do a full classified results round-up at 5:00pm on a Saturday anyway.

UTV opt out for practically no network programming now. The days where they'd opt out of the entire Friday night schedule for Kelly are long gone. They show the late night schedule 1/2 hour later but are you really annoyed at having to wait 30 minutes for, say, Weight Loss Ward? Its just teleshopping on ITV after midnight now anyway. (Plus we're spared that horrific new logo).

Plus - sports fans take note - if UTV were swapped for ITV I could see sports programming being blocked completely as it is on ITV4.

Anyway, I don't think there's danger of any changes happening for the moment, at least until BBC HD is replaced by BBC Two HD, which might or might not be BBC Two Northern Ireland HD. (And if its not rest assured there will be people on here asking why we can't see Ulster Rugby Live in HD). AFAIK there are no plans to launch the BBC One English Regions on HD.

What's the OP's source for his/her assertion? I've seen no mention anywhere that UPC are shoehorning in BBC 1 NI HD in place of the current offering? In any case, you might better-get UPC's attention here.

BBC 2 HD will be a single version for the whole uk and will be the same as BBC 2 England.

There will be 4 versions of BBC 1 HD, full HD simulcast chanels for NI, Scotland & Wales and a single version with no local news for all of England.

No plans for BBC2 Northern Ireland HD either

10000maniacs, obviously your petition didn't work.
Roll on the brilliant BBC NI opt outs again.
