On hardwareversand it says that the vat rate for Ireland is 13.5%. Where is this discounted?

    I don't follow

    http://lb.hardwareversand.de/infoagbprivat.jsp?lid=2

Shows the VAT rate for Ireland as 23% on good and 13.5 on services which is correct afaik.

You pay @ 13.5% because the company is based in Germany.

    To get it discounted:
For anyone wondering about paying VAT-exclusive, order as normal but before paying email information@hardwareversand.de quoting the following:
Your VAT registration number, name, address and customer number/order number.

Took me a week to hear back with the new price. Pay as normal (using the order details they first email you)

Worked for me in September ^

As a consumer in Ireland you will pay 23% vat on all purchases from HWVS as they are VAT registered in Ireland as they've exceeded the 35000 sales limit..

For companies who are vat registered you can ask them to exclude vat but on your vat return you mush charge yourself 23% vat then claim it back..

I find this all very confusing. From what I have gathered from the website they say vat should be charged at 13.5% but is being charged at 19%.

From you all have said as the sales to Ireland by HWVS is over 35000 they should be charging me vat at 23% instead of 19%. Should I say nothing to them and just order the products at the 19% vat rate?

Is it entirely up to them to charge you the correct VAT rate if they charge you 19% then good say nothing you'll save money but when I ordered from them my invoice stated that I was charged 23% VAT.. On the website the prices are inclusive of 19% VAT but they will amend the vat amount to 23% when the order goes through and you will be asked to pay that amount.. (I'm not sure of that's exactly what they do but it seems the most likely what they'll do) don't worry too much about the VAT I'm almost a fully qualified accountant and tax still confused me at times

The 13.5 % would relate to the VAT charged on services I'd imagine i'm not too familiar with Germany's VAT system
But since you are order goods it'll be the higher rate

Spoke to my boss today, just in a general conversation.

He said that I will need to have a PC at home, so they will pay for it :P...

Vat is no longer a problem :P

I have realised where I screwed up, I was on the German site with a translator. It read that they will give a tax deduction sending items. Was half asleep at the time.

Im about to order from HWV through my company and after a bit of research I discovered that they check all the orders quoting VAT numbers to ensure they are valid.

    They use this site http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/

The problem I have is that when I put my company VAT number in there, it came back as invalid. I then tried several comapnies VAT numbers, including major stores in Ireland whose VAT numbers I entered from receipts. Every one of them were showing as invalid. To check I was doing it right, I entered a German VAT number and it worked perfectly stating that it was valid.

Confused by this I phoned HWV and asked them what would happen as every Irish number I tried had shown to be invalid. I was told if it showed as invalid, they would cancel the order.

Anyone have any idea on a solution to this? I dont want to pay the VAT now and Im urgently requiring 2 graphics cards and another 1440p monitor. All for work purposes of course!

You might have to use a different site for the order :(

They are quite a bit cheaper than all the other places I looked. I assume that all the other e-tailers will verify VAT numbers and I would be faced with the same problem.

How on earth have you guys been able to have your VAT numbers verified? Can you check your VAT number on that site I linked to and tell me if your number is coming back as invalid too.

I just checked an irish vat no. on that site and it verifies fine. Make sure you remove the IE as its already selected in the drop down menu.

I tried a few others and they worked fine. Weird!!!

I was using lowercase for the letters and that caused a major problem. However it still doesnt find my number or the companies that pay us. Sportsworld is still showing as not valid too.

I will just get someone else company to put it through their books. Thanks anyway.
