MRI for tinnitus in both ears?

    Hi,

I have been to an ENT about 2 months ago with complaints of an irregular almost contant sound in one ear. I was directed by the ENT to have an audiology test done and an MRI scan.

I had an audiology test done. But I havn't had the MRI scan done yet. Since I was with the ENT, my tinnitus has developed in both ears. high-pitch in one, hissing in the other.

I have read that MRI scans are usually done when one has tinnitus in one ear (uni-lateral) only as it could be caused my a neuroma or other irregularity to the inner ear.

However, now that the tinnitus is in both ears (bi-lateral), is there any point in having an MRI done on both ears? (or should I just save my money and investigate other avenues?)

    Cheers.

    DJ

Hi danjay, if you have been advised to have an MRI done I'm afraid we can't offer medical advice to the contrary. You really have to take the advice of the specialist - or not, that is your privilege - but we cannot offer opinions on medical recommendations.

Sorry, but I will have to close this thread.
