I'm due to change my company car later this year and I'm very interested in the new 2013 Mazda 6. I sat in a demo very briefly at lunchtime today and was very impressed, but I didn't have time for a test drive. I'll arrange a test drive at a later date but just wondered has anyone on here driven one yet and if so what did you think? My current car is Skoda Superb Estate and I was pretty much thinking I'd go the same again until I saw the Mazda.

    Thank you

Think they've only just arrived in the dealers. Hopefully I'll get to drive one soon.

One thing about them, Mazda have seriously cut the margin available on them, and they aren't working out especially good value to lease now (old model was). Equivalent retail priced Superb will cost quite a bit less to either buy or lease.

You should check out the likes of Auto Express and Autocar to see test results. The only people who will have driven one are likely to be Mazda Sales staff who are hardly impartial or people who have had a brief test drive. You might get a few "my mate works in a garage" types also. From what I have read the new 6 is getting good reviews with only the interior getting criticism.Go to a dealer and arrange an appointment to get a good test drive(min 20 mins) on a variety of road types so you can get a proper sense of driving the car.

Cheapest model is the 2.0 litre petrol and lets face it they probably will not sell any of them here. Cheapest diesel kicks off at just over €32k. That some amount of wedge for a main stream family saloon. While it is well speced, €32k buys you alot of car these days and Mazda resale values up to now tend to be on the poor side (good if you are buying a used model). I don't think I'd spend my own money on one myself despite liking it.

It'll be a lot nicer to drive than the Superb, but they're pricey alright. Don't go for the 2 litre.

The Tourer is a nice looking wagon

Online pics look a lot better than the previous model.
I like the red tourer, but as I said the last time someone mentioned the new model - there is zero chance of anyone in Ireland buying a red tourer so I can buy it off them in a few years time... :(

Nope, it'll be f**king silver that they'll buy.

There is at least one around, I saw a red saloon on Sunday. Looked very well from back and side. Much more noticeable that old one. thought it was a 12 reg but I'm not entirely sure.

Was talking to my Mazda dealer about an hour ago. His first one landed to the dealership on Saturday.

Apparently it's being aimed above the Mondeo/Insignia/Avensis, and the pricing reflects that.

Unfortunately, I think it's landed in Accord territory and no buys them as it's cheaper to get a Mondeo, or more prestigous to go for a 120p s A4 or 316d.

Strange move, wonder is it down to the car being produced outside the Euro zone (unlike its competitors) and tough exchange rates. One way to justify the higher prices is to try and get people to think it is a class above, which it is not.

The new model seems to be a big step up from the last one, at least on a styling basis. I do think it stands out but I can't help thinking that the pricing structure is flawed. It seems to be priced above the standard family saloons and not far off the Accord/3 series /A4, as mentioned by a previous poster.

Will this miss out on potential fleet sales as a result of the price point? I know we had several Mazda6's on our fleet over the years, but I would imagine this model would not be an option as it would breach cost limits. I would think that those employees who were eligible for this car would just get an A4?

I think its ugly, the old one had a cool styling for the front grill and headlights, I feel this is now ruined:(

I like the old one more

That's an american version (I think) of the first model. So the "old, old" model rather than the old model. The original 6 was fine, but a bit dated now. The model that followed that was a bit "meh" for me.

The latest model is a definite improvement on the 2nd gen styling IMHO anyway. Reminds me of the older Xedos range (mixed with some Audi)

Prefer the front on the old Sport version. My next motor hopefully ;)

I think they judged the market wrong here, priced it poorly and will struggle to sell many of them. As said it is too near to the entry level junior executives which people will aim for due to resale values and the new Mondeo will be well below it in price.

Thanks for all the comments lads I am just waiting for the lease company to arrange a test drive in one for me. The demo model that I saw was a red saloon, top spec with cream leather interior. It was very nice, but I would be going for the mid spec sport. As I mentioned earlier I'm currently driving a Skoda Superb Estate Ambition spec and would have no problem going for the same again if it made more sense, but it there anything else that you can think of that I should be looking at? I'd thought of the Hyundai i40 estate, but seems as though it might be a little under powered, Modeo estate but I know that a new model is coming later in the year. Let me have your thoughts.

    Thanks

I wouldn't hold out for the new Mondeo, it's been delayed and no-one knows for sure when it will eventually land here.

Auto version of the i40 has the more powerful engine. Insignia Tourer? All bar the base model have sat nav these days. Peugeot 508 estate might be an option too.

drove the 150PS tourer this morning....loved the way it handled on the twisty roads...engine was responsive enough and very quiet...however a bit firm and wind noise was higher than I expected when I took it out on the motorway

However, this is one tourer that is not nicer than its equivalent saloon. Sitting in the car park beside my Legacy, I still preferred the look of the Legacy tourer.
Inside is another story. Love the feels of the dash, the way it looks, layout etc. Seats are impressive and very comfortable.
Price for me puts me off considering it. I'm not sure if its as expensive as the Accord but if it sits in between that price bracket and the Insignia/Mondeo price bracket then people will go for the cheaper option and also if the Superb works out better value.
It might be a good used buy in 2yrs time but I certainly wouldnt buy one new based on Mazdas pervious resale values

Thanks for the review. I'm booked in a for a test drive of the Mazda 6 on Saturday. I had an I40 touring overnight last night and I was actually surprised that I didn't find the engine that under powered and the cabin was actually quite a nice place to be.
