Looking to get a set of AT tyres for my sorento and have a price of €198 for BFG and €132 for general grabber, both prices include fitting.

I did a search and found a couple of threads on the generals from a year ago but no one had used them off road, i drive on some very soft muddy ground in a few hunting spots so they need to be up to the job.

I considered mud terrain too because i only use the jeep at the weekend for fun so noise on the road is not something that will bother me, i got a price of €174 for bgf mud tyres, are they safe for road driving? I do about 50/50 but like i said if its just a comfort thing with them i dont mind

The general grabber at is a fairly new tyre it is replacing the AT2 which was an amazing tyre, The AT doesnt look as aggressive as the at2 but has I have heard good reviews of it.

Personally I am not a BGF fan. BUt again is suppose to be a good tyre

Have you considered other tyres, Hankook, Cooper etc,?

Most AT tyres will struggle in mud, Some mud terrain behave quite well on the road, I am running Kuhmo KL71 and do a lot of road driving, but they are not everyones cup of tea on the road.

What size, speed and load rating tyres do you need for the sorrento? not all tyres are available in all sizes

Yeah i thought mud would atill be an issue with the at alright.

Im open to other sugestions, them kumho look nice, how are they in the mud? How much did you pay for them?

The tyres on it are 245/70 16, not sure about the load and speed rating

Most I know swear by BFGs, they last for ages and the muds are still good on road although I've switched to ATs now.

Any of the well known makes will be sound, as well as BFG, Kuhmo and General there's Cooper, Pirrelli and Continental as well. Don't buy a cheap unknown make is the main thing.

It depends on what the mud is actually like, some AT's are not too bad if it isnt going to be too regular.

I got the Kumhos over a year ago before they got very popular and they have gone up a good bit since then. I bought them online from england it worked out alot cheaper. I found them good in the mud, I,m not off road alot but I do some work in fields, woods, boggy ground etc and havent been stuck yet.

One thing to note is that an AT will drop your MPG a bit over a normal road tyre and the MT will drop it a bit more.

you need to find the load and speed rating, these can vary greatly and if they are wrong you could end up with a few hundred worth of tyres that you cant use, they would fail a NCT or DOE, could get you in trouble with the guards and/or void your insurance

the load rating will be something like 110/112 114/116 on the tyre
the speed rating will be a letter after the load rating

If you can post up the load and speed we can then see whats available

I just got a set of bf goodrich all terrains 265 70 16 from cotters for 640 installed and balanced.

My 265/75R16s were a similar price from a small place near Fethard.

I've bought from the UK before but if you take the prices to a local tyre dealer they may be as competitive by the time you've taken in to account delivery and the hassle of loading them up and taking them to be fitted.

I have bought a few times from the uk and gotten great value, but there are times it works out more expensive with buying and shipping without even fitting. Its like everything you got to price around

I have a set of General grabber At2's on mine. They are fine in all the conditions I have used it in, on and off road. They do wear faster than the BFG's though, so if you can afford them you should get more life out of them.

Its decision time for me, i got a price of €155 for bfg at and €135 for bfg mt. Im going with one of these, opinions? I got stuck in a field on friday with the rain and muck it turned to slop and was like driving on glass, couldnt get up a small hill and needed to get help to get out.

As i already said this is weekend use mostly so noise ect from mt tyres wont bother me.

    Any Opinions between the 2?

I ran BFG MTs for a long time, they aren't noisy and grip fine on the road, last forever as well. You'll sacrifice a bit of mpg over Ats, I run mostly on road these days which is why I switched to AT's, combined with traction control on my 110 i can get most places. The MTs will be better in heavy mud.

Cheers for that, decided to go for the MTs, ordering tomorrow..
