    Hi all,
Got a new road bike and gearing issue.
I think the cables need a wee bit of time to bed-in ,therefore the cable has either slipped or needs to be re-tensioned.
as stated it will not shift back up onto big ring of the compact chainset.
anyone any idea where to start?
two screws on the FD but which is which and screw down/up does what?
    SRAM rival btw.
    any help appreciated.

update:cable fairly loose behind the FD alright!even when i manually pull it over to big ring!
so basically get allen key loose cable to FD,pull it tight when on large ring and then re tighten?

If it was me i would not mess around with screws, these are few small adjustments, cable prob.needs tightning, put it on big ring and take up slack.

If it won't go onto the big ring then the cable is too tight, assuming that the limit screws are not preventing it.

    feels right also!
when i have it moved all the way across on the lever still barely 2/3rds over the big ring (not enough across).
loosen cable 1/4 inch and bring it across?

ps how would i know if the limit screws are limiting the movement?both of them are fairly screwed outish!

Big ring is cable too loose and not pulling far enough.

There should be a barrel adjuster either on the shifter or on the down tube. You can use that to take up the slack. That said, it's probably no harm to tighten up the cable at the clamp screw the first time:
    1. Set shifter to small ring (cable as slack as possible)
    2. Loosen clamp screw
    3. Pull cable finger tight
    4. Tighten clamp screw
    5. Test shifting
    6. If still too slack, use barrel adjuster

It shouldn't be necessary to adjust the limit screws as they'll have been set up in the shop and won't stretch like the cable will.

    Hi again!
when i have the chain on the small ring with the smallest gear the chain is rubbing off the FD.(its in too far towards the frame)

That sounds right as it really is a coombination you shouldnt use.
As cdaly said: There should be no need to adjust the limit screws YET.
If the cable is too slack then it wont shift up to the big ring.
cdaly gave you all the info you need.

By the way and I should have posted this earlier, I use the Park Tools website for adjusting derailleur problems. It details the exact sequence for each.
