Would plasterboard over block internal walls stop the effect of using the walls as thermal mass and releasing heat into the room, also in a dormer type house what type of walls stud or block would be best when using underfloor upstairs on pre cast slabs any information is greatly appreciated

Hi, I am about to begin the plastering of my new build and I have put a lot of effort into keeping the inner block wall of my cavity relatively cold bridging free so i can benefit from the thermal mass.
My question is, would the use of a skim coat finish over my wet plaster on the internal walls in any way stop the transfer of heat to this thermal store or reduce its effect? Or should I use a wet plaster finish and leave the skim or is the difference minimal!?

    Thanks for any info!

I'm not sure I understand. Are you asking if a sand/cement render is more efficient than a skim coated finish internally. Or are you asking if a plasterboard skimmed finish is less efficient.

If it is the first I don't think it would make much difference thermally. Not enough to warrant doing anyway.
If it is the second then this would make a difference as there would be air between the sheet plasterboard and structure acting as an insulating layer.

Thanks topcatcbr, it is your first assumption. It is a sand/cement render with possibly a skim coat finish. I just find the skim coat finish to be cold to the touch when I see it on new builds and wondered if it had less heat retention than just a wet plaster finish.
This was pointed out to me in an old house where both finishes were used and the wet plaster finish felt a lot warmer.
