So I've recently built my HTPC, an xbmc set up running on windows 7 in a HP N40L microserver block. Got bgt3600 tv card installed and working on getting that working fully, but I'm having trouble figuring out the ins and outs of sickbeard, couchpotato and headphones. Is there anyone who can guide me? total newb when it comes to NZBs.

I've gotten a sub to newshosting.com but after that, I'm lost.

First step is installing setting up Sabnzbd, you'll need that setup and working first. Enter your newshosting.com details in the server settings.

I'm going to dedicate the morning to this tomorrow. I think I need some index site too? All the guides I found were out of date

I have this on my to-do-list for the near future also zuroph, do post up and let us know how you get on... this is also one tricky task i have been putting off learning about! :D

This could be an interesting thread for HTPC users looking for an all in one solution for shows etc.

I have Couchpotato, Sabnzbd, Headphones and Sickbeard up and running. Yes you need an indexer and unfortunately the good ones have all been taken down recently. However sickbeard and couch potato both use free inbuilt ones which are good at finding new media but not so good at finding old media. You still need a usenet provider though and you have to put the server details into Sabnzbd.

Have you got this far? Is either programme able to send files to sabnzbd ok ?

I've had to reinstall SABnzb, Sickbeard, Couchpotato etc recently as built a new pc, had previously had it installed on a Synology NAS.

    It's actually pretty straightforward, here's a good guide: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=120406

Another news indexer would be nzb.su

    Good luck!

Thanks for help guys. I have it up and running to the point that it finds and downloads the sickbeard requests, but the post processing isn't happening, they're not being moved back by sickbeard. Think I might have that .cfg file set up wrong .

You can post-process in SAB. Just set up a tv category and then enable tv sorting. Then make sure sickbeard is telling sab to use the tv category for downloads.

I use Sickbeard for post-processing and it renames and moves my files successfully most of the time. You shouldn't have to go into the .CFG file either. It can all be done from within Sickbeard. Remember to turn off moving and post-processing in Sabnzbd if you do go with Sickbeard to sort your media.

    That said both methods work.

Don't forget to install Counchpotato next.

    then Headphones (music)
    then LazyLibrarian (ebooks)
    then Mylar (comics)

If you're into those kind of things
    :D:D:D

I find Headphones barely works and is really slow with large databases. Anyone else have this issue?

If you feel you'd use headphones you need to donate to get access to the private database, MusicBrainz only allows a limited number of api hits before it denies them

When I was using it I found it would create folders for albums/artists but if wouldn't find the music so my db was getting clogged wit crap.

Did OP get SickBeard up and running yet?

Also dont forget to get a good app for controlling all your addons. NZB Unity does the job (if you have an android device)

I've stopped using Headphones. Spotify is worth the EUR10 per month IMHO. I still use Sickbeard and Couchpotato. They work 90% of the time. I used Qouch for iOS to control it all. Unfortunately, it's been pulled by Apple. Any other iOS alternatives?

Did qouch work remotely? I use the various web interfaces for sick beard, couch potato and sabnzb from my iOS devices without problem but I only have them working when all devices are on the same network, ie at home.

All these apps will work from anywhere, that's the idea. Your router translates all your private IP address into your public IP as traffic passes outbound to the internet (and vice versa, but only for packets it is expecting to be returned). You need to forward the ports on your router to your pc and use your public IP to access them from outside your network. This way, when a packet lands at your router using a certain port your router will know which private IP and port number to transfer to.
