I want to go skiing this year but am struggling to get any of my friends to go with me. A few have said they would do a long weekend as they wouldnt be able to commit to a whole week.

I have been looking online but I havent been seeing anything that would accommodate just for a weekend trip as everything id done by week bookings. It seems the only way I can go about it is if I do everything myself, buy flights, rent a car and somehow get accommodation for a few days.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

The 'advanced search' on this page is really handy :http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/skiresorts/default.aspx#.UPQ8gK5-TN0
You can pick an airport and then search by map or 'rating'. Might help if you find a cheap/convenient flight to a particular airport!

Or choose an airport from this site, and it gives you times/distances http://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/Airports/Salzburg.html

I booked through activity break.com. Fly out sat am, ski sun and mon and fly home Tuesday. 480 for two all in. This includes flights, ski pass, skis accom etc.

Maybe it could be done cheaper, but this was the lease hassle!

I had this problem a few year back ( complicated story!). I ended up doing a lot I looking for deals for one or weekend skiing but between flights , the 2 or 3 hour commute to & from
Resort, check in times etc & the nightmare of hiring a car to drive up mountains in sheet ice & snow it ended up cheaper & easier to book a last minute deal and negotiate only to pay a supplement for one rather than to book a weekend.

If I had to do it again I think I would book an apartment as I really did feel like billy-no-mates at dinner .

That said I also did Club Med ( the four trident one) in France a few years back and all the tables are round & sit 8 or 10 so you have to share with others ! That was pricey but great value and amazing Craic thou the crowd was a bit older - probably cos if the price tag . club Med do a thing ( or used to) where you could opt to share a room with a ( I think!) same sex stranger!! If nobody else chose that option then you got the room to yourself at the same price!

When I went to Austria by myself a few tears back the day & après ski was no problem as I had booked a class which was in the afternoon & we arranged to meet up for drinks / hung back after for drinks most days too!!! If you don't mind going without a gang & really like to ski it's worth doing - you just need a good gang in the class which usually happens! Book it as a skipjack before you go or else you will end up with just people booking a single refresher morning & you won't have the class vibe drinky thing!!

If you don't like to socially drink I don't think this wil work for you!!!

When are you looking to go? Hoping to get a trip early march and again at Easter. At present, it's just me. I know a few Bb owners in St Anton and can sometimes get part wks. That would be my preference for Easter. Sound interesting?

    HI,

I would like to plan a 4 day ski trip but none of the companies or resorts seem to do 4 day weekend packages. i have looked at the usual sites and they haven't been great. Ideally i would prefer a resort that caters more for beginner and intermediate and would be leaving from Dublin. Andorra looked to be best spot but travel time to the area from barcelona or toulouse is making me think twice about that place. anyone planned or booked something similar?

    Thanks in advance.

I did something similar a few years ago, we flew into Grenoble and took a public bus to Les Deux Alpes, the bus cost about €7.50 return and took about 2 hours.

I don't think there are direct flights to Grenoble anymore but Lyon is close also. You could take a bus from Lyon to Grenoble and onward to L2A or take a transfer direct to L2A. (The Transisere buses don't serve Lyon as it's outside the Isere region)

We stayed here: http://www.hotellameije.com/ no problem booking by the night.

I think we flew in on the Friday and back on the Monday, we just paid cash for our passes when we arrived. Gear can be rented at reasonable rates from intersport.fr, they have a couple of branches in L2A, keep an eye out for half price sales on the intersport website.

which resort did you go to?
480 for 2 people for flights, accommodation, & lift pass is a pretty good deal...

Flights to Milan Berg with Ryanair for €130 and the rest was booked through activity breaks.com. I've never used them before but someone here recommended them.

The resort is a small one called Montecampione in Italy, around an hours drive from Milan Berg.

Going the first weekend of February so dont know what the resort will be like!

i've been looking at Morzine for a long weekend in Feb.
Flying from Belfast to Geneva with EasyJet. on a Thursday afternoon at 13:30
Returning at 18:10 on Sunday. 140 euro for flights.

The times of the Easyjet flights mean you get the extra half day on the hill.

That means you get 2.5 days of riding.
    122 euro for lift pass.

Anyone know any reasonably cheap accommodation that's central in Morzine?

    cheers

Heading out on a Thursday to Geneva then onto Courmayeur until the Monday. All simple and booked DIY. Better to go DIY for holidays of odd days duration and plenty of options from Geneva, Munich, Salzburg and Memmingen.

any chance you post some info on the prices?
and maybe a link to the accommodation?

also , what's the transfer like?

I find the flights from Dublin generally don't allow for 2.5 days on the mountain as you'd need to leave early Sunday morning to catch a flight :-(

I have done this a couple of times (lousy friends and their lousy non skiing babies :D) you will find places.

decide a date and overall area and book flights

    and hit http://www.austria.info/uk/accommodation

if you have a hire car you could get place in one of the quieter resorts and drive to a different gondola each day

Flight booked last October with AL - €98 return to Geneva gets in to GVA at 09:55
Car hired for the transfer. Although you could get a transfer. Loads to Cham then get on a bus.
Hotel also booked last October - 500 for 2 pax for 4 nights through booking.com. Hotel Ottoz Mueble.

I really liked Les Gets, nice runs and good lifts. Do you mind me asking which hotel you're staying in?

checked it out on trip advisor and it's got 4/5 stars.
