Just wondering has anyone got a suit made? Have heard of people getting their dresses made and all that but is there anywhere where you can get a suit designed/made from scratch?

Certainly there is; a tailor's. Louis Copeland is a well-established one, but there are plenty of others. Round about Grafton Street and round about Capel Street are the principal tailoring districts in Dublin. And some of the department stores have, or used to have, tailoring departments, which tended to be a bit cheaper.

There are also online tailors to whom you send your measurements, and they have a suit made up for you in Hong Kong or Shanghai. Some of them make regular trips to Dublin so you can select your fabric, get measured and give your order, and then the suit arrives six or eight weeks later. It's considerably cheaper, but obviously there's no second fitting, and alterations are a bit of an issue.

Getting a suit made is not cheap, generally speaking. But you should end up with a suit that looks exactly as you wish in every detail, fits excellently and lasts a long time.

Try some of the shops down South Anne Street and Dawson street, some of them do it. We tried Abrahams and they do. It's not the cheapest option, but lovely to have something well fitted and specially for hte day
