4 years ago I was involved in a road accident that we thought at the time was only a minor inncident but it developed into a bigger claim from one of the drivers, these things happen I know. so we let the insurance companies deal with it as you do and last year at long last I was told it was settled and the claiment got a 6 figure sum. I was shock but again these thing happen.
I went to inquire about my insurance today as it is soon due for renewal and I was informed that the case was reopened, meaning that I was again stuck with this insurance company for another year.

What I was wondering is, why would the case be reopened? my insurance company couldn't tell me.
And also when the driver claimed for injuries he also claimed for loss of wages for a job he dosent do, is there any point following this up?

Claims can be re-opened for minor things such as admin etc. If you spoke to an insurance agent, they probably wouldnt know why. Did you ask to speak to your claims handler as to why it was reopened?

Claims should only affect your premium for 3 years from the date of accident occuring and there is no reason you cant change companies.

Sounds like the kind of situation where maybe other companies won't insure you if you've got a claim open - could be wrong here though!
