Hey folks looking for your opinions on these two...obviously different animals and I know not readily comparable in many respects but looking at a GTD (170bhp) or Scirroco (TDI - 140 bhp) in the 2010/2011 Year bracket.

Attracted to both punch from the GTD and look/poise of the Scirocco (subjective thy name is roc!!!!).

Price clearly higher on the golf and rightfully so

    ....anyone own/driven one or both??

Scirocco is a much nicer looking car, especially if you can pick one up with the r line kit.
You could buy the 140tdi scirocco and have it remapped, probably about 170-180bhp after the remap.

Or you could buy the 2.0 turbo petrol in either car and enjoy driving them :D

    +1 Scirroco

From looking at various sites re: remapping, you can realistically achieve a 30/35 bhp increase. Again it various from car to car. There is a guy in Dublin I think who comes highly recommended by people on this site. Check him out

So get the Scirroco and get a remap.

All things being equal I would certainly be sitting on the 2.0 turbo petrol .... Pipe dreams :-(

2 for 2 .... I was expecting more in favour of the GTD but I am certainly drawn towards the look of the roc.....r-line terrific looking motor!

Go for the Scirocco as every time you drive past one you'll feel like you always should have bought the Scirocco. A simple remap would take it to the power of the GTD. They are the same engine after all.

Scirocco plus a remap from Joe Power and you won't look back :D

I have a GTD, bought it new in mid 2011. Really happy with it. I had the petrol MKV GTI for a few years before it and I found the transition to the GTD almost seamless. Comparable performance and looks with significantly less running costs. A Win win.

I didn't really consider the Scirocco to be honest. I'm not fully sold on the looks myself, though I do accept its an attractive, eye catching car. Just something about it, particularly the rear end, to me, doesn't sit right. I also really wanted the practicality and space that the Golf has. And in my eyes, the GTD/I is a very smart looking motor in its own right, with the right spec (3 door preferably), colour and wheels, I think it looks great. Just IMO.

I went to get mine remapped recently and ran into difficulties - there was issues with the version of ECU in my car, but hopefully a solution will be found. On the upside, the car produced 180bhp as standard on the dyno!

My vote goes to the Golf. Just more practicality and will probably be easier to live with.
In the right trim it will look smart too. Something a miss with the rear of the roc....still, nice looking motor aright.
