Anyone recommend a HDMI DVD/Blu Ray combo?

Long story short, my dad bought a massive LCD/LED HD telly last night, but all our decoders, DVD players etc are a bit older and use SCART. Aside from the TV only having one scart input, as you can imagine the picture is quite pixelated from being scaled up, particularly with talking heads, faces etc.

Solution for the TV signal is obviously to upgrade to a HD decoder. We will also need a new HD DVD player as well though, and so I was wondering can anyone recommend a combination HD DVD / Blu Ray all in one player, which supports HDMI? Figure we may as well go for Blu Ray in the same machine since everyone seems to be moving to Blu Ray these days anyway, we have a big enough collection of DVDs to still need a DVD player though.

Finally, how much should one expect to pay for such a player?

There are very few options available.I have done a lot of research into what is available and at the end of all that I came up with only one that would fill all my requirements and that is the Panasonic DMR 720 bluray recorder that is Freeview+ which though not Saorview approved does a good job of decoding the package. It is not without its own faults but I have managed to get around most of its nick-nacks(discussed at length in this section of the forum). It has twin tuners,a HHD of 1tb,inputs to take other connections from the likes of Sly or satellite receivers. Most other makes of recorders have ceased putting av inputs on their machines as they have giving in to the pressure of mainly the America movie industry to stop people recording their tv programmes. Samsung is a classic example.I also own a Panasonic bluray recorder which is a Freesat machine.I rate it better than the 720 but unfortunatly Panasonic ceased production of the Freesat range in Jan. I have twice since then tried most dealers in the UK for one for my next door neigbour but none now available. The 720 is cheaper in Ireland than in the UK at about 500 Euro Talk to the Panasonic store in Limerick.TMULL

Sorry I should have said, I'm only looking for something to PLAY DVDs and Blu ray in HD, don't mind so much about recording. Would imagine there would be a lot if those on the market...?

Loads available. If it is bluray it has to have HD capability. All bluray players also play dvds and should upscale the picture from same.TMULL
