Few rumours that it may be :

Cotto - Austin Trout - Martinez and a few others

I cant see Cotto doing this fight. He would be establishig himself as an undercard fighter and would get little share of the money on the night.

Trout is possible, but again Trout is not a huge crowd puller and reresent a big risk - after all this fight must be won if the grand plan of 'Mayweather v Canelo' is to materialize.

Martinez would be great but I can't see him settling for an undercard fight at this stage.

There is one other fighter however, James Kirkland who could be seen as an ideal opponent.
Kirkland (who was spectacularly knocked out by feather-fisted Japanese fighter not so long ago) is very under-rated as a fighter in my opinion.

Kirkland is in a bad place at the moment. He has finished with his mad trainer and the rest of the boxing people on his side.
He was rumours to go to the TNT promotions (50cents) but I dont think it went through.

Kirkland is ripe to be screwed over on a match purse and I'm sure Golden Boy know it.

This could be a potential fight of the year in my opinion.
Kirkland would come in as a massive underdog here , and I fancy him to do the trick on Canelo.

Kirkland has two of the heaviest hands in boxing. He also has the mind set of a savage killer.
Whilst Canelo has walked through the power of every opponent he has face, Kirkland presents a new problem in that respect.

Im crossing fingers here that this match up gets made.

So he gets knocked out by feather fisted lad and you think he'll stand with Canelo, where's the logic.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Wahay, you're back talking about this mismatch again.
Remember we are having a bet on this one. I'd say a lot of people's opinion of this has changed since we first discussed it, but to be fair to you you've stuck to your guns.

So have I. The only thing stopping me from saying Canelo will KO him in the first 2-3 rounds is the fact that he's so patient, sometimes too bloody patient!! Kirkland will be picked apart by a vastly superior boxer, who just might outbox him for 5-6 rounds, regularly hurting him before there's an obvious stoppage, rather than Canelo jumping on him the first time he hurts him - and he will hurt Kirkland!!

Matthew Hatton made it 12 vs. Canelo. I would much rather that lowlife, krkland, suffered a steady beating for 12 rds.

Cowzerp - It can happen ! But I think he proved his chin against el perro.

Yes Megadodge - havent forgotten about that :)

Kirkland will gradually break Canelo down and shock everybody.
If I had to predict a round it would be Kirkland by KO in round 8,9 or 10.

I can't see that happening, Canelo will connect with one of his hammers before then, and has been pointed out, Kirkland was leathered by that Japanese fighter not long ago.

Either way I do hope that Alvarez wins and sets up a bout with Mayweather.
