Hi am very close to buying a Toyota Levin BZR and am wondering what kind of quote to expect for insurance when I can ring tomorrow. Don't want to buy the car and end up paying €2000 for insurance. Im a 24 year old male with a full licence 2 and a half years NCBs on a 1.4 Astra. I have 6 months left on this policy at €650 a year. I also have another 2 years experience as a named driver on my fathers policy but that prob won't count.

I was trying to insure an Integra at 26 with 7 years full license and 4 years NCB; most insurers flat refused to even quote the car (Jap imports are a major issue in this country for insurers) and of the quotes I did get most were upwards of €1500.

I lucked out and got a quote for just under €1000 with Setanta Insurance through a broker in my area, and if Im honest Id say brokers are the way to go. Given your age and experience Id expecting some pretty big quotes from those who will actually give you a quote at all, but persevere, get out the phone book and ring every broker and insurer you can find.

Id also start the conversation with "Im trying to insure a BZR Levin; will you quote me on this car". It will save you a considerable amount of time as most will say no from the start and you wont waste 10 minutes on the phone to them before they ask what kind of car you are trying to insure!

It's not bad at all. Extremely easy to ensure though to be fair!

I was actually looking at getting a Levin and britton insurance wasn't bad at the time I was looking but can't remember how much it was exactly. Brokers are definitely the way forward though.

Actually now that you mention Britton http://www.4thelads.ie/ would be worth a look. Although I think they may have something about Jap cars in the t&c or the assumptions; worth taking a look either way.
