Your opinion on shotguns?

I'm considering buying a shotty due to the fact that I think it would a great secondary weapon because I wouldn't have to worry about running out of gas. Can someone please give me there opinion on shotguns? What you like and don't like about them? (Of course this question is directed to people who own an airsoft shotgun :p)

I use to own one. they're great fun and take a lot more skill to use to the hits you get are far more satisfying.

Having said that if you're considering using it as a secondary I wouldn't. They're difficult to deploy compared to a pistol and are essentially semi automatic. I used mine as a primary with my sidearm as my secondary.

What kind are you going for? tri-shot or single shot?

Thanks for your advice. I'm going for tri-shot. I was skirmishing last week and I always felt useless when it came to close quarters. I own a M16 AEG, which has a very long barrel and terrible iron sights (in my opinion), making it annoying to use when trying to capture the flag or defuse the bomb...etc (close quarters). I always find myself in a close quarter situation with a long raged weapon...which led me to wanting a shotty :pac: I suppose it make more sense for it to be used as a primary :3

I use a stockless tri-shot shotty as my backup. There are no gas worries in cold weather, I don't have to worry about mags falling out, and the way I carry it I can draw it faster than I could unclip and unholster a pistol.

I have my AEG on a single point sling and the shotgun sling over it, positioned across my back like this:

I just have to reach over my shoulder with my right hand to grab the pistol grip. The sling easily clears my head (even when I am wearing a helmet). I can have the shotgun covering someone faster than I would a pistol.

I find I use it mostly for short range, CQB type work, which means being pump action is not a problem. You tend to pop out - fire a shot - and then drop back into cover. The 3 shot spread makes you pretty deadly anyway.

And as there is no stock on the DE M56 I use, it doesn't catch on anything, and stays out of the way until it is needed.

as sliabh mentioned the stockless one may be the better option so :). Honestly never thought of that. The tri shot does make it far more difficult to avoid getting hit :). In my opinion though, I would still go for a pistol as a sidearm, if you want a bit of firepower going into CQB areas get an MP7 or something similar like and MP5K. The tri shot stockless shotgun will be the best option for you though if you're set on a shotty :)

I took the stock off mine and glued a Velcro strap to the side to hold shotgun rounds so it can be taken off if needed .also fitted a simple sling so I could carry it easily. It's a great weapon in CQB but I don't think I'd use it outdoors. Mine is a tri- shot and I really dont think single shot shotguns are truly shots gun (more like supersized springers) I'm not trying to offend owners of single shot guns ,it's just my opinion.
I usually have it in my go bag simply because - batteries can go flat , gas can be useless in the cold and sometimes things just break.its nice toe have a simple low tech option sometimes.
Having said all that I don't think I'd go into a skirmish with just a shotgun , having to fire and reload can really catch you out if you get rushed or if you need suppressive fire or fire and manoeuvre situation or if you need to provide covering fire for mate.
Hope this sums it up to help with your consideration.
