Doe and tax out of date, what do I do?

Hi folks, was wondering if someone can help me. I have an old commercial jeep that has been off the road for two years, tax and doe out of date for two years. I'm thinking of getting her back on the road if its not too expensive. Does anyone know if I need to get the "good only" cert stamped by the gardai again or can I just book it in for a doe and get it tested without tax? Then get it taxed after test? I just don't want to get it taxed if it fails doe or whatever needs fixing is too expensive.

    Any advice appreciated, thanks!

you need a doe to tax it so that will have to be done first. if you already got a cert signed by the gardai for the jeep it should still do you

Thanks Eddie, the jeep was already taxed/doe'd wen I bought it and I let it lapse because I wasn't using it anymore, I don't have the Garda stamped cert but still have the original doe cert. do you know if I need the Garda cert to get the doe?

no the garda cert is just to get commercial tax rates. you need a vat number or herd number to get it.

Ok so just to confirm, I just need to give the doe centre my vat number to get it tested?

No, sorry to get a doe test you just need your log book for the jeep and the fee. once it passes you bring that cert to your tax office to get a certificate of roadworthiness. with this and the declartion of commercial use (you need your vat number and a garda stamp on this) you can tax your jeep at commercial rate.

the declaration form should be available at the tax office and is only needed the first time you tax the vehicle in your name.

    sorry its a bit confusing
