Car key has been acting up lately locking and unlocking itself while I'm in the vacinity of the car without me touching the button.

Yesterday I locked it with the fob and it hasn't opened for me since! The barrel of the key is worn away to nothing so can't get in the traditional way.

I rang Autokey hoping that if I gave the reg and brought the key up to them they could do something for me but they said I had to bring the car in.

I have access to the engine but don't want to do anything drastic yet like breaking a window without seeing what my other options are first.

Calling someone out would cost a fortune that I don't have so any suggestions welcome.

Have you tried the key in the passengers door and the boot. They might be less worn and work.

A Ford dealer will cut you a new key blade to fit your remote key for around €25. Then you can open the door at least. A new remote is around €80-100 plus coding but you might get one cheaper online.
