    Assignment Number 99

This challenge is looking for photos with SHALLOW depth of field.

That is the ‘subject’ should be in focus while any foreground/ background should be ‘thrown out of focus’.

Depth of field is generally controlled by:
    -The aperture.
-The focal length of the lens.
    -The Camera-to-Subject Distance.

    Aperture:
Here the lens aperture is stopped down all the way to f2.8 on a zoom lens with the focal length at 50mm.

    7E9E6CC06E5A4071AA0B9BEF5658A57C-0000337703-0003004290-00800L-F7E8FAED51604843833DB897FDA936E9.jpg

    Long focal length:
This pic was taken with a 300mm lens, at the closest possible ‘in focus’ distance to the subject.

    25FC190414AD46C1A24B3B935B24846A-0000337703-0003065471-00800L-B04B416A79B440788495AEDC092837D4.jpg

Get out there and start taking photos and remember it is SHALLOW DoF which is required.

    The rules:

-Photos must be posted within 2 weeks of the day the task is set– so the closing time/date is noon on January 27th 2013.
-No old photos to be submitted.
-Only photos taken with this task in mind qualify. Therefore, the photo must be taken after noon on January 13th 2013.
-ONE photo per post. But submit as many posts as you like.
-Stretch yourself – there is no limitation to what you can do to produce the image.
-The next task/subject is to be chosen by the person who has the most number of thanks after their post at the closing date/time (the post must include a photo).

    Good luck & Enjoy!

As the host of this 'challenge' I like to express my thanks to you for submitting a photo.

Most of the 'recognised' photographers don't.

I think the 'Challenge' tests every 2 weeks should form a much more important role in the community.

And maybe a bit of debate about the future 'themes' might be helpful.

The challenge has concluded – thanks to everyone to took part and who voted.

In an extremely close run contest - dacogawa is declared the winner.

Dacogawa won by the narrowest of margins with 31 ‘thanks’ to Liamo’s 30.

So it’s over to dacogawa for the next challenge.

Thank you Keps, it was a great subject for the assignment! The photos in this challenge were amazing & it'll be a hard assignment to follow...

Thanks to everyone for the votes too :) especially Liamo as I think he gave me the last vote, that's sportsmanship of the highest order

Are we going to debate on how the Subject is picked from now on or shall I just roll in with something ?

If we're changing the format may I suggest the winner picks 3 subjects & puts a poll up for 24/48 hours where everyone votes on which one they would like. It will slow things down by a day or 2 but it does give the whole forum a chance to be active on the topic choice.

I'll think of something (or 3 things) & post it/them this later tonight. Thanks again everyone

I was one of the later votes but the tie-breaking vote? Sorry. I can't lay claim to that level of sportsmanship.

A good result in the end as the better shot carried the day. Well done !! :)

i think you should just pick the subject :)
if people want to choose a subject, they can try and win the challenge lol

I agree - just pick the subject yourself:)
