    I'm feeling nice so I won't troll.

Google the website name with 'review' after it. This was one of the first links to appear - http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/wedding-boards_attire-accessories_seabridal

If it "seems" legit, then it's probably legit.

Once you,ve been told that you,ve won a prize because you are the millionth visitor or if you are told girls are online ready and waiting to chat to you, then you cant enter your bank details in complete confidence and security

Always check the Whois records for the site. If the details are hidden or protected I wouldn't buy anything from them.

Just to add also check where the website is located through a IP lookup
    http://www.ipligence.com/geolocation

That site is hosted in the Netherlands and is different to its WhoIS details.

DO NOT USE THIS SITE! ITS A SCAM!

If you use Firefox you should install the Flagfox addon

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flagfox/

It gives you easy quick access to Whois lookups, IP addresses and server locations. Displays a wee flag in the address bar to tell you which country you're 'in' when browsing.

I remember back in college in part of a module we studied whether a website was legit or not. The example they used was:

    http://www.martinlutherking.org/

Scroll down the bottom of the page and click on the link for who hosts the site.

Just because a website is hosted in a different country than where it is actually based you should not use them?

What about websites that use a CDN which will load the site from the closest available node?

OP. check online reviews and whois data. Not geographical location of where the website is hosted.

In this case though the website does look to be one to avoid going by reviews.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    From that site.
So now, not only will I not be getting my refund, but I paid $70 on top of that to ship it back!!

    Double burn.

That 'Whois' is an awesome website :)
Just searched up a few sites, such sites that I know who owns the domains, and they showed up... clear as day :)

However, there was 1 site I searched up and it said "Registrant Name: GLOBAL DOMAIN PRIVACY" - Yet I know the owner. Its his online business... Does that mean the website is 'under the table'? ;)

    Hi

Is there any tricks to see if a website is the real deal?

    I.e this one?

    http://http://www.seabridal.com/wedding-dresses.html

This may be a legit website, but they are selling knock-off dresses. Usually, these operations operate out of Asia (China). They will obtain an image of a designer dress and then have someone in shop replicate the dress for you. They are making knock-offs.

when you register a site your personal info gets posted by default but with some hosting providers/services you can hide your info
