As the thread title says, would you go out with someone with the same name as your brother / father / sister / mother / aunt / uncle / cousin / grandfather / grandmother / family member ??

My sister's boyfriend has same name as me (obviously not as handsome as me :P ) but I wouldn't go with a girl with same name as a family member, would you?

Would you date / marry someone with same name as a member of your family ? 62 votes

If I got on with her and she got on with me I wouldn't mind if she had the same name as my brother.

Being picky about a girl because her name is the same as my mother's is as about as important to me as coming up with a witty response to this thread to mark my 1000th post. Should be a big deal but not really fussed.

    Woohoo, 1000th post.

Yes of course I would. The reason why.... Because not going out with someone purely because they have the same first name as your sister or mother is the possibly the stupidest most ridiculous shallow retarded reason for not going out with someone.

Apart from the obvious not wanting to let something like a name prevent a good relationship I'd actually enjoy the prospect of fécking with peoples heads i.e. saying something like "finally got the shift off Aine last night" to your mates, only to see their faces turn thinking you mean your sister

Yeh but when you're riding her senseless and you start calling her name, and then, just at that point, you realise you sound just like your da does when he shags your ma, that must nasty!

Yeah. I did, same name as my sister, wasn't an issue then and it wouldn't be an issue in future. A comical reason to refuse to out with someone.

My wife on the other hand did call me "Daddy" once. ONCE.

I know a guy and lets say his name is John O Sullivan, well, his sister married a guy whose name was John O Sullivan. I think it's kinda cool she the issue of changing names was a non event.

look up sigmund freud the psychologist, he had a theory that all males were subconsciously attracted to their mother along with other weird and wonderful, but disturbingly credible theories.

Whatever you do right, whatever you do. DO NOT THINK OF THAT THE NEXT TIME YOU'RE HAVING SEX WITH YOUR WIFE. Do not think of this thread, do not think of shagging her dad, do not think of betwitched. DO NOT THINK OF IT.

    :D

It took me a minute to register "Did she just...", before I went limp, lol, as kinky and all as I might be, I think I found the line you don't cross that night! :pac:

Ah Freuds theories have long since been debunked Jack, that particular theory you're on about though (his "Oedipus and Electra Complex" theory) is indeed particularly disturbing! :D

Not only that I married her. My Mother and a sister both have the same name. Before you read anything Freudian into it she is completely different in almost every way.

My wife didn't change her surname to mine though. Imagine family events with three identical names.

My husband shares the same name as my brother. No big deal I've always loved the name anyway although it's very common

I once went out with a girl for awhile that had the same name as my mother and sister, was funny but didn't think to much about it

Though I responded positively, it seems unlikely I am going to meet up with someone in Ireland with the same name my Japanese mother had...

Now, would I date someone with the same mannerisms my mother had? Absolutely not. I had one mother, and am not in search for another.
