Apparently, it is not all that uncommon to find dinosaurs with part of their tail missing, which shouldn´t be surprising considering how modern crocodiles often bite their rival's tails off:

Never seen lizards biting each other's tails off... although I guess they have it easier, what with the tails being detachable and all
