Gap in No Claims Bonus

    Hi,
I currently have a no claims bonus of 5 years on my own policy. However I am thinking of getting a new car (3l Diesel) and as I am only 24 it would be cheaper to drive from my husbands policy rather than my own... Does this mean though that when I turn 25 and choose to renew the policy in my own name that i'll have lost my current no claims?

Regardless of who's name is on the policy, we will both need to drive it.

Normally they will honour it for 2 years. They don't like gaps and you need to be ready to answer awkward questions.

Don't know about honoring it for two years, might depend on the company. My girlfriend came back from a two year stint in Oz and they wouldn't accept her two year gap in her 4 years no claim bonus.
I'll have to ask her but I think they would only honor a one year gap.
Ring you're Broker OP and ask.

There is a noticeable enough drop of over €200 in my insurance quote as a 25 year old.
I think I would rather keep my own policy and save in the long run than to save now using my husbands policy.

However the other place I am stuck is that currently I am on a commercial policy that does not end until july. I am insured through a broker that only insures commercial vehicles. Does this mean I will have to set up a new private policy rather than just being able to transfer over my existing policy...

I understand if you cant answer this as I will have to ask my broker...
