I was driving my car yesterday and the battery light came on while
driving, the car was driving fine. I got home and left it for a few hours then checked to see if it would start which it did, no problem. Anyone any idea what this could be and how much to get it fixed? its a 01 freelander 2lt diesel

normally thats a fault in the electrical system to say your battery isn't charging, in my mind there's two likely reasons, 1 alternator goosed, this would be reasonably expensive or 2. fan belt gone. depending on car this could be used to run alternator.

thank you, is it safe enough to drive it to the garage (assuming it starts again this morning)?

i would drive it if it started, avoid using lights, radio or anything that uses battery power as your battery is probably not charging.

Have a look first for anything obvious, like a loose connnection or a broken drive belt.
