Haven't stayed in the hotel but have heard great reports of Mount Wolsley. Have played the golf course a few times and is one of my favs. They normally have some great deals on and one of the places I kep thinking I should bring the mrs.

I'm not connected with the place at all.

Might be a bit "too" close to Dublin for you, but the Castleknock Hotel would be a good option.

Knightsbrook do golf, hotel and spa. They had groupon voucher deals last year for hotel+golf or hotel+spa packages which I bought but due to so many restrictions on availability I eventually got a refund.
Have only played the course once in a society and it's well worth playing although a bit open and generous off the tee in places.

I'd recommend heading to Wicklow to Brook Lodge and playing Macreddin.
I don't think they're affiliated in any way so not sure if they do deals in conjunction.
But Macreddin is only €15-20 a round and unreal value at that.
Neither of ye will be disappointed with Brook Lodge either. Really nice but maybe a bit pricey.
Macreddin is warped around Brooke Lodge so it's as close as any hotels course.

Was there today. Want to go back tomorrow.

another vote for mount molseley as a golf course, fine fine track.

Hodson Bay hotel is a nice spot, right beside Athlone GC

I know its a banamana course but my sister was at the heritage with her hubby before christmas and loved the place - food was terrible though

Farnham Estate. Amazing spa and a very decent course (if a little damp). Slieve Russell too up in those woods.

Have a look at Druids Glen, Carton, K Club.

I have stayed in each of those hotels and played the courses, but I would put Slieve Russell ahead of them and I would consider Glasson as well, might both be a bit of a strectch to a 2 hr drive though. Also just asked the wife, she enjoyed Adare Manor & Dromoland, but there at the top end for pricing and of the other the Russell would rank highly, given that apart from the spa, there is a 3km path walk around the course and tennis court's.

This was on JustTreats a couple of days ago.

I also stayed in Mount Wolsely with my girlfriend last year. They seem to have regular deals up for stay + golf or spa. She loved the spa and I loved the course. Really nice hotel as well and the food was lovely. Only downside was that there's not a huge amount to do in the area away from the hotel.

Quality of heritage spa has suffered from what I have seen.

Glasson is good for the golf but doesn't have a spa in the hotel. Athlone is well under the 2 hours drive limit. You could stay in the Sheraton or Hodson bay which have spas and play golf in Athlone or Glasson.

The slieve Russell is v good too.

Thanks for your replies ! Looking at 3-5 nights in self catering in July ? Hotel with Spa and Golf, close to a nice Village or town !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭Ben1977

I would say Mount Wolseley too. Easy to get to. Course is great. Had a couples day in the spa with my wife, have to admit, I really enjoyed it. She loved it.
Close to town, some nice restaurants and good pub grub. Hotels restaurant is nice and the bar food is very good with a good few options.

    Mount Juliet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭Ben1977

    Mount Juliet?

    Now your talking.
But you have to stay in the old house facing the river. You'll have to dig up that tree in the back garden, the one that grows money!! Well worth it, and the food in both restaurants is tops.

I am afraid my budget doesn't go as far as Mount Juliet !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭ft9

I didn't even look up the prices, I presumed it would be above average, but it's hardly that bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭ft9

€360 in May. Couldn't look up any dates past thet for some reason.
This stay includes 1 Night Dinner, Bed & Breakfast and 1 leisure activity of your choice. Choose from; a round of golf, a spa treatment, clay target shooting, horse-riding or archery.

They'll probably do the 3 nights for €1000.

    LOL!

Another vote for mt wolseley, as a member I'm a bit biased but the course and spa are top notch, they also have self catering lodges which are very nice, Waterford castle would be just over the hour and a half limit but again a lovely spot, not sure if they have a spa

Sure I deserve it, let the team down. I've been standing in this bold corner for the last 3 months.

Back on topic, mount wolseley has some lovely houses on site.
