    Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum but I have a question regarding public liability, professional indemnity and workers compensation insurance. The last one is probably called something else in different countries.

If someone is in full-time permanent employment in Ireland but plans to take on a 1 week contract for another Government to carry out some scientific analyses in another European country can s/he get these three types of insurances without being self-employed? If not, does s/he have to apply to be self-employed just for the 1 week in another country or how would it work?

Also, is there a list of which companies may offer these kind of insurances on a European level? Most I could find are car, house, life or business-related insurances.

    Thanks for any help!

Maybe talk to some of the umbrella companies (eg CXC), to see if they have any suggestions for you?

Is the work you are doing for the 1-week contract through your regular employment or as an individual (i.e taking a weeeks holidays) ?

If through your current employment then would the existing insurance not cover you ? you may have to tell the insurance company that you are working outside the country.

If you are an individual then you get cover but it might be expensive. What does your current contract say about working in the same field while on holidays ?

    Hello,

This is more a hypothetical question as it is not clear if this is actually going to happen. But the work, in this case it could be classed as a consultancy, to be carried out would be carried out on an individual basis with unpaid leave from the main work. It is not part of the main work but would be private consultancy.
