Thinking of buying a Renault Laguna (05/06)

    Hey all,

I need a new car and seeing as the budget isn't too big I thought that Renault Laguna's were a nice looking car for the money they are sold at.

I know people say their electrics aren't great, especially pre 2005, but does anyone here own a 2005/2006 one? Or does anyone on boards know a bit about them?

Am I asking for trouble getting one or are they an OK car?

    Thanks

The 05 Renaults were still giving the well known electrical problems, have one, trust me.

If it's only me you are stuck with for advice, knowing what I know from experience of a 05 Renault, I wouldn't buy one, window reg issues on 3 out of 4 windows, unable to open boot, faulty key card, airbag / service light 'on' all the time, cd player died. Reckon I put €1500 into it for repairs besides servicing over the years

pity they're so bad coz they're a nice looking car! Cheers for the replies guys.

Did I read before that the facelifted model (on runout) 06/07 had much improved reliability? And the 07 new model was also a major improvement. Reckon damage was done though and sales fell way back. I know in England and the UK, they discontinued the Laguna, presume same was done here as there'd be no demand for RHD's.
Pity, the Laguna was always popular here, at once stage was a better choice than a Passat. Still see plenty of the Mark 1's on the road actually. Renault threw that away themselves, as did Peugoet after the excellent 406 replaced with the finnicky 407.

I wouldn't recommend anyone touch an 05/06, sister and mate have had them and nothing but heartache.

Ya I read that from the newer 05 models upwards that they gave the car a facelift and sorted out the electrics, that's why I assumed it'd be safe to get a 05/06 model, but if so many people are having trouble with their 05's then I wouldn't buy one, well not a 05/06 anyways! Pity..

You could have a Mondeo, passat, avensis, primera, Mazda 6 - all of which are a good deal better.

I'd agree except for the Passat which can be troublesome but somehow has this ridiclous "reliable" tag. Wouldn't touch an 05/06 with a barge pole. The Primera ironically shared parts with the Laguna of that era and had it's problems too I believe.

    I don't want to go above a 1.6L due to tax/petrol prices..

    Why is that ironic?

What about a mazda 3 or ford focus? I had the mazda 3, it was bulletproof, albeit a little bit boring!

Because the primera is known as a reliable car, the laguna is not when they have some of the same parts

The 01 i had did that a few times luckily just after moving off,op you wont go wrong with an avensis which come in 1.6,i went from a laguna to an avensis and there is NO comparison whatsoever.
