Hello, thinking about getting a UK small 4X4 and getting converted to commercial.

it doesn't have to be brand new.

something like X3 or freelander, maybe even Audi Q5 or if i can maybe Q3 if the price is right.

    question is:

are there any specialist companies that do this in the south of the country, so that its is Revenue compliant?

i take it there will not be a Vat receipt from the UK dealer, so there's no VAT to claim?.

if i could get one of these specialist companies to get the car and then buy it from them so i can get an Irish vat receipt, that might be better.

    all suggestions welcome.

Since 2010 imported commercials have to be factory built, no conversion on import of luxury 4x4s any more. There may be some still be advertised but I don't know how they are getting around it.

You can still wreck an Irish registered passenger 4x4 and get it commercialised although it's getting more difficult as they have to be inspected by an approved assessor before the VRO will look at it.

Freelander 2 and Discovery 4 along with some of the jap 4x4s can be had as commercials.

thanks for that, didn't know they changed the law on that, so thanks, regarding people selling pre-2010 converted luxury 4X4s, if i was to buy one of those, do i need to take it to a specialist place and get it compliant with revenue or not?

or should it come with paperwork to prove the work was done professionally?

    thanks

If it's already converted to a Van then the paperwork should have all been done before it was registered. Most were converted by the importers upon arrival in to the country, before they were registered (€50 VRT at the time rather than the many 1,000's of € for VRT on an X5 / RR).
