Just read the news on winter is coming that Wilko Johnson who plays Ser Ilyn Payne has been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas :(

Its very sad news. It did get me thinking on the impact this will have on future series when casted actors/actresses can no longer commit. I know we have seen characters from the books not appear in the series - and story arcs changed/combined. The fact that we have been already introduced to Ser Ilyn it will be sad if
we can't see him acting out as sparring partner to Jamie where we get to learn some of Jamie's darker past. I also agree with what has been discussed in other theories online that Ser Ilyn could become the source that proves the R+L=J theory - always thought a POV chapter was due but he maybe too minor a character

Re - POV chapters. As the books have gone on he's more inclined to give the odd one to randomers. Wouldn't be surprised if Payne got one eventually, would love to see it happen.

That is sad news though, he is another case of perfect casting in the show.

They can recast him, obviously it's a sensitive issue but the actors sickness is no need to write a character out of the show.

Yes, I was sad when I read this. I like the actor who plays him, I thought it was excellent casting.

Of course he can be recast, but there is no denying that an interruption to continuity is not a good thing for a show. However, life gets in the way, and a show that casts such a variety of ages and conditions of people (from very fit to very fat) is bound to come across illness and even death among the cast if it goes on for a long period of time.

Personally I worry that GRRM himself wont live long enough to finish the books.
