hmmm.. I take it its just a concept though??

That car needs more power not more rear headroom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭Pique

It appears to be just a result of desire+photoshop, unfortunately.
As fo power, I'm sure some nice Subaru people could tune that sucker up a bit (or turbo it!).

Yeah, was wondering this too, its just a concept/photoshop isnt it? Cos I think it looks great, more appealing than the base Coupe too.

If it is just the result of some guy with photoshop, he's managed to make it look better than Toyobaru could!

I think that might be the one i met on the M7 one late night last week, seriously impressive car in the flesh, tried to get the driver to drive it on a 'little' but he wasn't biting the bait :D

Don't like it, much prefer the regular coupe.

That's because he knew how slow the car is and didn't want to embarrass himself :pac:

I do get it, it's light, RWD and handles spectacularly because its fitted with Prius tyres  ... I still wouldnt be too happy about being out-dragged by a diesel rep mobile on a motorway though.

My point is 50 BHP more wouldn't have hurt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,251 ✭✭✭Andrewf20

Yep, looks photoshopped. The door line doesnt meet up with the window division on the side on the top pic in the OPs link.

That is the point, the fact that 50bhp actually would have hurt. It's excellent the way it is, and if folk want more power, then turn to the tuning companies to help.
If I had one of those, I wouldn't care what rep-mobile did what, the fact would remain that he would be in the wrong car!!

    That was probably knifey_spoonie!

It's plenty quick for a 2.0 na engine with 200bhp. There aren't Too many repmobiles with that sort of power.

Did he buy one? Its a seriously impressive car on the move,I passed him as he pulled out of a filling station on the M7 and i may have eased off a bit for him to catch up to get a closer look.He wasn't up for pushing it on though, can't blame him really that stretch of the M7 is a bit of a speed trap zone.

I dont think you really get the idea of the GT86, More power would be great but it would upset the whole balance of the car.

Its a fun car at low speed, not a intense car at high speeds. The joys of the 86 is a car any ham fisted driver can get into it and have fun. Its a car the will move around at low speeds, thats what makes a rwd car fun. If you put wide sticky tyres on it you raise the speeds that this happens at. You raise the speed you raise the danger and the level of skill need to have fun.

If you have an issue with being outdraged, buy a second hand cayman, its not a car for a swinging mickey competition. Its designed to be enjoyed.

@ Tossy don't think it was me, what day. Im in a red one at the minute.

I really like it apart from the ridiculous name, Shooting Brake? What in the hell is they supposed to mean or signify???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,899 ✭✭✭Paddy@CIRL

GV12 DWW is Toyota UK's regular GT86 press car. It's not even a good photoshop, I can't believe how many places are running with this "story".

The GT86 itself is a car that can easily be beaten on paper, but on a fast backroad is absolutely world class. If you think it needs more power, then you haven't driven one.

I'd give my left nut for a GT86. Possibly the right one too.

TRD are bringing out a version to rival super cars, the prototype has already smashed the 458 Italia's Tsukuba lap time.
It'll be a totally different car of course, more of a high speed, high grip mental machine.

I hope they pick up on this concept and develop one though, I love it.

Aye id say it was me, could have been flutehead driving tho' (drummerboy). I was on the m7 around 6ish coming back around 2 in the morning.

Also another advantage of Prius tyres is wear rate, 2 trackdays and 14,000 km rears are still at 5.5mm:D
