Has anyone on here played Dunmurry Springs lately. I see they have open singles on over the next couple of weekends and I'd travel if i thought it was in good nick.

Played there just before Christmas with similar lead up weather-wise. It's a nice course (with the exception of one hole, but I've banged on about that enough), but in my experience,it doesn't take rain very well. The greens will be fine, but fairways and rough will be soggy. Well worth playing though, if you get a reasonably dryish run-up.

I would agree about it being a bit soggy, but hell where isn't these days. Think its a great track. Was there in November and was in great Nick!

Might give it a shot so on Saturday, thanks. Anyone else on here feel like playing on Saturday morning?

Played there yesterday, beautiful day (once frost cleared).
Soggy in bits, but most are these days, but not too bad. Greens were a bit long (to protect from the frost) but were due to be cut today.
Rough was cut WAY back, so very different to a summer round.

Having said all that, I really enjoyed the round, and it was my first visit.

Nice course but keep it out of the rough if possible. Lots of fescue to lose your ball in.

As mentioned above, it unfortunately has one of the worst holes in world golf.

    The 6th ya?
I played it a year or so ago when I every hole I played was a bad one.
The low HC I was playing with hated it, I was scratching more holes than not at the time so I didn't take much notice.
Would love to go back and see what I think of it now that I'm hitting them a bit better.

What is it that makes it so bad? Dogleg situated too far away from tee?

I think the term dog leg is being kind.

It's a 90 degree angle. I'd hate to have to play it every weekend.

Just a daft golf hole as it is. Quite dangerous for guys on left fairway also. Tee should be brought up about 50 yards.

I won an open singles down there last summer and was absolutely over the moon when I was given a voucher to play the course again as my prize!!!!

    Ridiculous open prize.

Jees that's pathetic, was it even a voucher for a 4 ball. I've said it before but I'll harp on again, open prizes in all clubs should be set as GUI vouchers with the club setting their value. They don't need to be significant but convenience is key in terms of being able to post them out and use them anywhere in the country, what if you were in Kildare to play Dunmurray Spring as a once off from the far reaches of Kerry or Donegal.

A bit of fluke, but I just hit a driver and an iron over edge of rock to just off rhs of green Birdie:).

A bit of luck - but could some of the club lads not reach it in 2 with 2 good long irons ? You can cut the hole distance over rock , or if you can play a fade (controlled slice:p) you are laughing. A Mad hole - very small landing area and as Sevesthreeiron said, you could kill someone on the left.

I like odd holes like that - sorry only played it once, maybe the 2 iron option is daft ?

great membership deal on in Dunmurry at the moment.
Cost is €835 all in ,can pay by DD monthly and what you get is pretty impressive.
    Full Member
% day playing rights @Druids heath,Seafield and Glasson.
2 year memberships to the Curragh racecourse(bar derby day)
A free fourball for Bunclody GC.

The reason I might be interested is because I live at the moment about halfway between Dunmurry and Druids so I could play Druid's during the week and DS at the weekends.
Any boardsies interested in joining and maybe share the driving coming from Stillorgan?

A great deal for a super course i agree but on checking the website it appears it's two one off passes to curragh racecourse rather all year entry thats a bit of a difference.

I hear you but Stillorgan to Druids isn't bad and I work down that way also, what I'm thinking is it's cheaper than a regular 5 day for Druids so it makes a lot of sense.
I would plan on playing DS twice a month and DH at least once during the week

This is exactly how I'm going to play the hole the next day I play it.

When we played it in the boards society i pulled my drive a little left, it caught the slope and finished way out in the middle of the 8th fairway. I almost got the lads who were coming up the other side. For my next shot, I had no idea where i was aiming and hit two balls from where i was, just to be on the safe side incase my first was out of bounds.

but anyways, apart from that hole. lovely course and cant wait to get back there in a couple of months for the boards society :D I'll definitely be playing a few of the holes differently than "ScubaPro" was suggesting to us the day we played last year :D

Member in Dunmurry Springs myself. Tigerwoods1 is right, the passes are for one visit to the Curragh and not a membership.

As for Dunmurry, the course is one of the driest around with great greens. Never any temp greens. Course hasn't even closed one day over the last few weeks with all the heavy rain. Good vibe in the club, interclubs are strong.
Food in the club is very nice, the wife loves dropping in the odd time and joining me for lunch. She is costing me a fortune. If you need any information drop me a PM.
