Cycling in Orlando

I'm going to Orlando in March for 10 days and don't want to lose any fitness whilst I'm away.

I've found a few places that rent road bikes, so am sorted from that point of view.

My question is, has anyone cycled in this area before and if so can they recommend any routes? Anytime I've been there before all I've really seen are the multi lane highways or theme parks. I know it's pan flat, but a few routes in the region of 70-80km would be ideal.

I'll be staying close to Disney, near the western entrance.

    Thanks in advance.

I'd say having a look on Strava would be your best bet?

If you drove out of the city a little toward Kissimmee there would be a lot of nice smaller roads between there and Sebring and Kissimmee Prairie Reserve State Park and the chain lakes. It's know as the "high lands" so would be a few (tiny) climbs in the neck of the woods.

Or go slightly northwest on the Sugarloaf mountain road towards Claremont and nclimb the biggest "mountain" south of Gainesville at a whopping 95 meters!

That climb up the Sugarloaf isn't too bad to be honest, according to the website I ripped the picture from:

    http://simonsayscycling.com/tag/neilpryde-alize/:
climbs for about ½ a mile (800 meters) at a gradient ranging mostly between 8-14%.

If you have the stamina for a 100mile ride, that route in the link above has a elevation gain of 1300 meters, which, really is impressive for central florida!
