Given that he was the most talented thief in the history of the universe did he get stung by the ol' Thou Shalt not Steal Clause or did God give him a free pass because of the style and panache?

Can anyone give reason why Mac users are so willing to be rodgered? I get the iPhone we all pay over the odds for smart phones but I don't really get the iPad - Okay I do but it's still a little over-priced especially when for some inexplicable reason a pennies worth of memory seems to double the price.

What I really, really don't get is the laptops and desktops they are mad money. Back in the day when they ran on Motorola silicon I could understand it but these days they are some old PC bits, a good flat panel and a shiny box. Now I don't agree that the OS is better than Windows or Linux but lets just put that aside and say it is to Operating Systems what Salma Hayek is to women, Gods gift, why is it over a thousand euros per copy (when you look at what the components cost).

I'm all for choice and if they were a few quid more expensive than PCs I would get it - but they are 2 - 3 times the price. Why do people so virulently defend getting lubed and a screwed over? Why aren't people screaming bloody murder over the fact that you can't buy the OS and stick it on your own bunch of crappy old components sitting in a draw. You're not even allowed to mention Hackintoshs in the building and upgrading forum over fears of being sued back to the stone age.

Why is it okay for apple to nick everyone's ideas, repackage them and then sue everyone when it's done to them?

Is true that the latest iPads and iPhones won't fit the docking stations without buying an expensive adaptor???

I dunno but even my car needs a bloody adapter to use the iPhone. Memory stick it can play the tunes on it no bother but iPhone - does it bollocks.

    Yep.
About €30 for the adapter. And the port is off centre on the iPod, so it sits to one side on the docking station and looks ridiculous.

I thought this thread was gonna be about Jobs and Apple's love of using slave labour in China.

    Disappointed. :(

'Given that he was the most talented thief in the history of the universe '

That was enough, the OP has no idea how these companies operate. I guess Microsoft stole Skype

I understand if people don't like Apple or Samsung or any other brand you can think of, but what I hate is people berating others for liking or using a brand. They look for any opportunity to slag off the company/brand. They're worse than the fanboys in my opinion.

Oh, and talking about Steve Jobs "going to hell" is a bit much ffs.

    Welcome back.

Companies take ideas polish them a bit then sell them for a competitive price. My point is Apple don't do this - they sell them at a completely uncompetitive price - yet people still buy them. I admire the cunning - I'm just trying to figure out why people love them so much?

Use the brand by all means - if someone says here's a free iPad - happy days I'll use it and enjoy it. If I said Pay me €100 for a burger people would tell me to feck off - doesn't mean it's not a nice burger.

    Thanks.. :pac:

I have a mixed bag of hardware at home. Some apple products are worth the premium depending on your needs. If you don't have the need buy the cheaper alternative.

The fact that it's cool to own an apple products means the gen pop are pushing up the price. They dont know why they need it but they want an iphone 5 over a 4

Yeah but you haven't got a multi-million dollar advertising campaign behind your burger. They do.
No matter what people think of Apple, you have to hand it to them, they've done a stellar job at becoming one if the richest and most recognised companies on the planet. I mean, how many other companies out there can get people (idiots) to camp out over night and queue for days to buy their next product?!

Prestige I get that's not a bad reason.

But to be fair a BMW or Mercedes has the technology built into it to back up the price. If a BMW was a Mondeo with a different badge and slightly different body design would we pay more for it?

I suppose a good example is the Fiat 500, almost identical to the Panda and KA. If a KA was €10,000 would we pay €25,000 for a 500? That's what I don't get.

Again to be fair other companies manage to do this. Nintendo being but one. If a Wii had cost 3 x what a Playstation 3 did again would we have bought it?

I have an iPod, iPhone & iPad. I didn't buy them because I'm into brands. I bought them because I find them easy to use. I like that a complete technological idiot like me can download things & look up stuff.
I'm sure some people feel the same about Samsung or whoever else is a market leader in electronic thingys but for me it's all about how easy it is to use a product. And for me apple wins that battle every time.

and that is why the original ipod was so successful. The creative and sony alternatives at the times were horrible to use

I bought my macbook air because even though it was say approx 300euro more (thats just a guess - I did research it back then, cant remember) expensive than equivalent windows laptop it to me was the thinnest and coolest looking laptop/notebook etc on the market

I could have bought more capable windows notebooks for similar/ less money although they were getting expensive when you wanted flash storage but I liked the look and feel and design and I felt it was the the lightest slimmest notebook that was still fairly capable

not really a fanboy - I paid the premium because i wanted it the most and i knew i'd have always wondered if I'd be happier with it if i bought the other brands (I cant stand not knowing) - I had a dell xps before this and the motherboard went 3 times on it - before that a sony vaio and something went wrong with the power supply - happy with my mac and zero issues so far so in a way even though I thought I was probably going to be underwhelmed I was pleasantly surprised and its the best notebook I've had to date.

wouldnt bother my hole with an iPhone5 (like angry birds though)

That's the reason in a nutshell why apple has stormed into the lead.
Unfortunately for them it seems they are starting to drop the ball a bit and are being caught up by others.

Yes, but 2 years later they had better features, they weren't fussy about formats and were just as easy to use, easier because you didn't need itunes

Really? Because I had a zen at that time and it was just a matter of plugging it in and moving my music onto it. Picked the files I wanted and put them into the music folder. Unplug and press play.

The Ipod on the other hand was a pain and god forbid you should want to use iTunes on a windows machine (although I understand this has improved).

I'm going with massive marketing and generally just being that bit cooler.

Yes, actually working the device (ipod) was much cleaner. Back then this was not even debatable

The whole 'Apple is just easier to use'argument is simply an excuse at this stage.

I know a lot of people who wouldn't have a clue about technology that use and love their Android devices.

Seriously, you can use them with half a brain.

I've come from an iPad to and Android tablet and it's far better in tree's of being able to download and play back any file format.

    I don't even need a laptop anymore.

Same can't be said for the iPad where you've to sync with iTunes and therefore require another machine to use the thing... in some cases.

Having said that I'm happy with my iPhone as a communication device and don't mind using iTunes sometimes. I can still use Google music on it, besides I've a tablet for my media consumption.

I had an iPod and my friend had a Zen. Seriously, really wasn't that easy that it warranted the cost.

My friend could bring his Zen over and I could plug it in and put an an album on it. The Lynne east around was me borrowing a CD, uploading (while changing format) to iTunes then synching my iPod.

Again, if you think a Zen was difficult to use then you've (not you) bigger problems.

I didn't find either device difficult to use, I was studying comp science at the time. I've only ever had two mp3 players.

Creative was the first followed by the ipod. That interface introduced with the ipod was remarkably easy to use, it was kinda ground breaking.

You have to consider the average user here. Digital screen more than one button :confused:

Now, apple spin the same line about every other product since but I think it was true about the original ipod

And correct me if I'm wrong, but the creative zen also had a radio?
I could never understand why apple are afraid of radios.

Don't own anything apple related and don't understand why people pay 2 and 3x times for machines with worse components than a low budget windows gaming desktop build
