He is on another one about cycling. Has two balanced guests  giving out about cyclists. Seams to be gathering steam which is annoying. They are making cycling safer or some ****. Very annoying to hear this biased rubbish

At least he's not talking about abortion again.

I stopped listening to him because of the last time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,942 ✭✭✭wingnut

Just listening what a load of rubbish. They are really painting the image that every cyclist is ignorant and has a death wish and the poor drivers have to put up with it. Completely one sided! Not that there should be 'sides', an asshole is an asshole in car or a bike.

Unbearable man. Why anyone would listen to his senile guff is beyond me.

That's what the point seems to have been. Cyclist = bad
    Motorist = good

Don't know why I listened to it

He used to be such a reasonably minded bloke.

He was educated at the Jeremy Clarkson school of debate but whereas JC is comical in the delivery of his criticism, Hook is nauseatingly annoying no matter what the topic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭thebouldwhacker

Be it rugby or any topic he goes on about he aims to be argumentative, not much of a show if he thought life was all sun shine and roses. His angle is always to play the unenlightened fool and draw comment and gain attention, he seems to have a natural talent for it......

I just change channel when cycle commuting is the topic. It's not worth the stress :)

I find it odd. Why would would anyone want to to be whipped into a frenzy stuck in traffic after a days work ?

Never like that in the days of Myles Dungan :P

George Hook is a paid media Troll, ignore him.

    Stop listening to him..
I found his opinion on most subjects to be right wing , conservative BS....Sad thing is people do listen to him and will form opinions about cyclists based on his...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭DKO

I quit listening to him full stop some time back, shame about lack of balanced discussion, only going to reinforce the opinions of those who are agin cycling and perhaps sway the opinions of the undecided.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

I used to listen to him, but stopped because of his very right-wing views and when he half-seriously planned starting a tea-party sh1te over here. He isn't as blue collar as he swears to be, I reckon he is just another conservative person who hates change. I have been listening to newstalk morning and evening for nearly 10 years now, and he is the only person who has started winding me up the wrong way in newstalk in all these many years.

Cycling safer? That sounds good. Let's start by banning taxis from the Bike/Bus lanes. Was he taking phone-in suggestions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 198 ✭✭bedirect

I agree, he is a terrible dose to listen to, he seems to be talking through his nose all the time. He is right though, cyclists should stay off foot paths and go correctly up one way streets, it seems to be commuters that are the problem not sports cyclists

I know this is a two year old thread but this seems the most appropriate place to post this link:

Well said by Matt and good to see George being put back in his box!

I think it's grossly irresponsible to be spouting his agressively anti-cyclist diatribes when the majority of his listeners are driving home from work, stuck in a traffic jam, and watching bikes zip past them. Sometimes you start to wonder if he is trying to goad someone into running over a cyclist in their car as they are listening to him. That can't be his motivation, but it always crosses my mind when he goes on a rant.

remember this fool recently made a big deal about a "bullying" tweet he got...and here he is basically doing the same by trying to intimidate cyclists...
    hes an ape...simple

His dislike of cyclists does seem to go beyond the usual half-phoney ire that journalists summon up to get them up to word count on a column. I suspect something deeper is going on here, and I feel a bit sorry for him. He's still unbelievably tiresome on this subject.

    Q. Who is a big support of all things Haiti?
    A. Denis

    Q. Who is Georges boss?
    A. Denis

    Go figure.

In that interview, Hook said that the last time, he was on a bike, was 1963.

He is also branching out into literature

    http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/books/george-hook-reads-an-extract-from-his-erotic-novel-he-saw-the-wondrous-orbs-and-buried-his-face-in-all-their-glory-31358081.html

Well, maybe literature is the wrong word.

I wonder whether the main character in the novel will treat his fictional listeners to lengthy diatribes against people who travel by bicycle ... if his voice is audible from between the orbs.

Ah... the 50 shades of grey market. What a tasteless nit wit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭JBokeh

Sounds like my 83y/o neighbour when he starts talking about the time he saw a black lad working in spar, we let him have his talk, but don't really listen. It pretty much served as a reminder that he should be put into a homes he can go and be backwards there. :pac:

Leave him off to bang on about rugby, Michael collins, cyclists, America and god knows what else, theres obviously a market for it otherwise he wouldn't have a job. It's not north Korea, we can switch the radio over if we don't like whats on, be it bad music or raving old men.

If he rode a bike he would also be the most contrary man on 2 wheels, probably trundling up the dual carriageway wheezing on about how he is entitled to be there, and how good he was at rugby

This is all guff to create news , so people listen to his show or text in to give out ( clearly a money maker).

They do it on the morning show, make a controversial comment followed by

" text us what you think".

All guff, best off just ignoring it.

^ Its not guff if motorists start acting aggressively.
