Where to buy a Breathalyzer?

    Hi guys,

Where could someone buy a breathalyzer? I don't want to buy it online as I want to buy it at a retailer and see it before I purchase.

What's a good model of breathalyzer that has a low margin of error?

    Thanks for all your feedback!

    Fonzy

There are disposable ones in Halfords. They are the ones used by the french police.

(something I'm actually qualified to answer.....)

Laws were passed recently in France in particular that makes it compulsory for HGV drivers to have little breathalyzer tests (disposable ones) in their trucks.

Most factors that cater for commercial trade will sell them, they're not dear either (couple of euro iirc)

Pm if you wish to purchase some :pac:

Breath into the cup of your hand, if you smell alcohol then you are over the limit.

Why would you assume a breathalyzer is for drinking and driving?

I got one years ago when I went off to Uni and everyone loved it parties. It was a lot of fun and we had a few drinking games that involved it too (although, with the cheap ones like I had, you'll get false-highs when people drink and then immediately test. You had to wait a good 4-5 minutes or eat a cracker/drink something non-alcoholic. Still, it was good times)

And, it's really good to get an objective measure of how drunk you are. For people who drink frequently, particularly after they've started to sober up, *feel* sober while they still have a moderately high BAC.

I've woken up the next day and, would have otherwise attributed my feeling like crap to being hung over, when I was actually still intoxicated (and hung over). Rather than encourage drinking and driving; it could also reduce it.

I see it as being responsible if he wants make sure he's not over the limit

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Was actually looking at these in Halfords at the weekend. Targeted at those who are planning on driving in France.
Thought 7.50 was a bit steep for 2 testers.

OP originally stated they did a lot of driving for work. He/she has since removed that.

Simple way to look at it - if you're even only having one drink, don't drive after, regardless of your blood/alcohol level.

Don't ever drive again like? Or what specified time period would you advise? The point I'm making is that using a breathalyzer is very responsible and eliminates the "time guessing" game you recommend.

What makes you drunk IS your blood alcohol level! If it's returned below the limit, then he can legally drive.

What's the degredation in reaction time and spacial awareness caused by one drink, as opposed to that caused by being slightly tired, having a conversation, or listening to the radio?

Yeah god forbid someone driving home trying to avoid the threat of the Gardai and their bank holiday Monday rackets checkpoints.

I bought one a few years back in a chemists ; at the time there were two on the market that were Irish; one was "approved" by the Gardai so I got that one ; it was set to Irish limits. It cost a fair few quid but has been well worth it for " the morning after" - or in the case of St Patricks Day; the evening of the day after!

They've since changed the feckin limit so I can't use it anymore :(

Cool, I'll pick up a pair so.

I recently (I believe) drank and rode my motorbike , the morning after the night before.

Despite friends telling me I was stinking of drink I thought I'd be fine and threw the leg over.. I was half way home via the M50 and knew I was f*cking hammered (still @ 10:30am) and rang for a pick up from my son.

Its easy to go out with the intention of not having too many then get caught up in the party buzz, which is exactly what happened to me.

A kit or two in my bike gear would have saved me the trouble of locking the bike on the M50 and recovering it later that evening, or worse ~ an accident or failing a test.

    Halfords here I come :D

Had one before for the morning after.. 90e in the chemist and it didn't even go all the way up to the fun drinking game levels. Which makes sense overall.

Superquinn in Swords sell the disposable ones at the off licence counter.

I've seen the electronic ones in the Be Cool gadget shops some time ago but those shops are closing down all over the place.

So blood alcohol level of essentially 0, better not drive anyway because you had a bottle of beer 4 hours ago?

I abhor drink driving, but that's just ridiculous.
