    Hi,
Looking for advice. I live beside a laneway and want to build a rear extension that incorporates the boundary wall. Do I need permission for this? The extension will be within planning guidelines.
    Thanks.

need more info- is the lane public? If so, and we presume that the extension can be seen, then you would require planning.

Why not email google map location and photos of the house from the lane to your local area planner and ask them.

Yes it's a public lane - so I would need permission I presume.

It's unlikely that this wall would have any sort of reasonable foundation beneath. They usually don't, so you would need to engage a Structural Engineer to check this before imposing any additional loads on the wall.
