Im currently driving a Nissan qashqai 1.6 petrol 07 paid 11k last year for it but it's very heavy on petrol. Am thinking of selling it to buy something like a diesel merc,BMW, or an Audi.
Dont know much about cars but wat sort of car would I get from those above that wouldn't be a pricey to run ? And would not go over 1.9 either Or would I get one?
    Thanks

Work out how much you are spending on petrol over the last 12 months, compare that what it would cost over the same time using diesel. Then work out how much it will cost you to trade up to a diesel BMW or Merc and see how long it will take you using diesel fuel to offset the cost of trading up.

BTW smallest diesel engines in BMW/Mercs are 2.0 litre but engine size is irrelevent for motor tax if going 2008 or newer.

I'm spending around 60 a week but a friend of mine has a BMW 1 series 1.9 diesel does the same amount of driving and says 40 euro does him prob 8 days

It would never pay you to change a car over a €20/week bill.

The cost-to-change will be higher imho.

So work out how much it will cost you to trade up to a similar car, then see how long it takes you to make that money back by saving €20 per week on fuel. Spending thousands to trade up to save €20 a week on fuel will take you along time to just break even. You need to look at the total cost.

Dear alright, but i think the bills will be a lot smaller going forward than a dci which most people would buy.

Yea I agree petrols are less troublesome but that purchase price was high.

It was in a garage with guarantee and only 30,000 miles ... Prob was a bit much tho.

Yeah I see what you's mean for the sake of 20 quid but think I'd like a change also.

Any opinions on Audi a4s 1.6 and 1.9 diesel. ? Would the be economical and reliable ?

The 1.6 tdi 105 bhp was only in passats and Octavias etc afaik the new type Audi a4's from 2008 on we're 2.0tdi 120 bhp, 143 bhp or 170 bhp. The 1.9 Audis were the older model pre 2008 they came in 105 bhp and either 130 or 140 bhp not sure. If you get the newer 2008 Audi the 2.0 tdi engine will make no difference tax wise as its on emissions and low enough.they are all fairly economical 50 mpg +.

the 1 series is a relatively light car, would be more for the same engine in the 3 or 5 series. What is your budget? bear in mind that if you change, and are borrowing, you have to also factor in the interest to "upgrade"...

A 1.6 petrol a4 will be no better than your quashqui(can never remember how to spell it) on fuel. But if you just want a change I'd say you will be a while getting 10k for your car not trying to insult you I'm just being honest with you.

Note its reduced; its been listed a while. While the petrol is probably the better car, people will buy a dci everytime, even though its a hateful thing. The cheap tax/save €20 a week on fuel brigade are in the majority....never mind the bills that come from modern diesels

Carzone is dealer / dreamer prices mostly

And a 1.6 petrol a4 is underpowered and thirsty, a bad combo
