    Hi,

Has anyone got an recommendations on Ski Hire or Ski School in Cervinia?

Also does anyone know about lockers for gear near the lifts, or any shop that offers a depot service near the lifts?

    Thanks!
    B

    As an update,

There are two ski schools Brueil (http://www.scuoladiscibreuil.com/index_e.asp) and Cervinia (http://www.scuolacervino.com/?lang=en). Brueil office is beside the Cretaz chairlift and Cervinia school office is near the Crai supermarket by the bus stop in the town. Both had lovely staff but Brueil was a good bit cheaper for the lessons (150e v 185e for 5 mornings). Cervinia would not budge either on a discount or offer refund if the lifts were closed. We managed to haggle a refund with Ski School Brueil for one day as the lifts were closed due to bad weather. I had an instructor called Paolo and he was fantastic. I'd go with Brueil again if I was there.

For rental we went with Top Ski near the Yeti bar. I had my own boots so only needed skis and they were fine for that. Top Ski only seemed to stock Head and Lange rental boots which proved issues with one of the group. Lots and lots of trips back to the shop to get different boots. There is a rental shop near the main gondola which provides a ski locker service for their own rental gear and will take your own boots if you own your boots. The downside to this is that you would need to get the gondola down every day and miss home run 5. Prices for rental seem fixed throughout the town from what I saw.

thanks for the update, i'm heading there in march so good to know.

when you say lifts were closed, do you mean all lifts or just some of the higher ones? would be good to know what to expect!

any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I posted a more detailed review in the resorts review sticky http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=83179324&postcount=150 . One day only one lift was open. A tiny one to the left of the village which gives access to a short blue and short red. On another day no lifts at all were open. You could get the bus to valtournenche though covered with the lift pass.

I had thought from reviews I read in books and other sites it was only high lifts and the link with Zermatt which were affected by the high winds but the wind can affect all of the lifts.

If you've any other specific questions just ask and I'll try to answer.

thanks for that. i hadn't realised either that the entire place was liable to shut down. i'll have a read of your review in the other thread, cheers.

FYI, we took out insurance on our ski pass (2.50 a day from where we bought the ski pass) and this covered emergency assistance and also refunds for days when the lifts were closed. The ski pass office photocopied the lift pass for us on the last day when we went back to get our deposit. I scanned it in this morning and sent it off to the insurance place and it looks like they're going to give us a refund for the day all the lifts were closed. It's a pain we missed a day on the slopes but getting a refund is not so bad! Ts & Cs on the lift map itself so have a read of it before you buy your pass.
