civic 1.6 diesel

I think all manufacturers figures these days are quoted in ideal terms.

However, I borrowed a 2.2 Civic Diesel, put on the Cruise Control and drove Dublin-Belfast-Dublin and Averaged 65mpg. That was at a constant 60mph. Reduce down the capacity, ad in more technology like start-stop and maybe its not too unreasonable to assume this 70mpg average.

That new 1.6 diesel engine is supposed to be a great little unit.

Very few new shape Civics about, looks like Honda got the pricing all wrong, the 1.6 might sell a few more but it really depends on the price and supply.

The new 1.6 Civic is well priced when compared to it's competitors. The Irish are just unimaginative car buyers.

I don't know, the last model sold well from day 1, this one seems to be a rare sight in comparison to the number of 2006 reg old shape models.

I'd say the likes of the Hyundai i30 and Kia Ceed are also eating into sales of these more established cars. Entry level Civic 1.6 DTEC ES is €25k, top spec i30 1.6 CDRi is €23k, new Auris Luna 1.4 D-4d is €24k.

    Civic 1.6 i-DTEC SE 5dr Hatch 23,695
    Civic 1.6 i-DTEC ES 5dr Hatch 24,795
    Civic 1.6 i-DTEC EX 5dr Hatch 27,995
    Civic 2.2 i-DTEC SE 5dr Hatch 24,445
    Civic 2.2 i-DTEC ES 5dr Hatch 25,820
    Civic 2.2 i-DTEC EX 5dr Hatch 28,825

All ex. Works retail prices. Small enough margin on them as well so they aren't going to compete retail wise with the Korean stuff, but re-sale on a Honda will probably be substantially better.

Think they've only arrived in to Ireland in the last week or so. Might get on to Honda to see if they'll drop one out for a spin.

It's not really that much cheaper than the 2.2 to be fair. If I was in the market for one, I'd still go for the larger engine.

There might not be much of a diffrence in resale value. I notice since the launch of Hyundai's i cars and the Kia cee'd that used values have risen quiet a bit compared to the korean stuff of old.

Most here would, but that's not what will happen in the real world in this country!!

The 1.6 will prove more popular, people are scared of big engines.

The 1.6 will be cheaper to buy, cheaper to tax (when the bands seperate or change in the years to come), cheaper to insure, cheaper on fuel etc and really, the 1.6 engine is plenty quick enough.
