As I've mentioned already I'm trying to lose weight , I'm looking to buy some clothes that look good on me right now , I'm looking to get 2 nice casual shirts and 2 jeans , the one thing I have going for me is that I have very broad shoulders , does anyone know of anywhere in Dublin I can go , a tailor perhaps to get stuff that fits me well

I'm broad shouldered myself and can tell you that the biggest pain in the ass is getting long sleeves of the proper length - I also have arms of good average length thereby making my wingspan rather large for my size. I just hate long sleeves that are too short - I like them plenty loose, but at the same time not like a pirate. I find that many of the shirts in Dunnes don't have sleeves of sufficient length and are yet too wide around the waist (this is the case with many shirts) - and it's not as if I wear those stupid corset like shirts (don't get me started :(), but still.

I think a good place to go though is Shaws - AFAIK, there's one in Dun Laoghaire (if you're from Dublin). There are a nice range of casual dress shirts (polyester/cotton etc) with strong checks and stripes, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for. Do try a few on as the sleeves very in length. Most of the shirts there are plenty loose fitting, but there are some that taper in at the waist so they don't billow out like a marsh mallow - it's good IMO to have a consistent fit around the torso.

It does take time, but by shopping around and trying different shirts on, you might manage to avoid the tailor. If you get a shirt that's good fitting except at the waist, I'd say get the tailor to take it in below the sleeves or simply insert darts on the back - he/she should know what to do there I'd imagine. If the shirt has centre pleats at the back, you could get those converted to a permanent box pleat the whole way down thereby using up material - however, this will take material from the chest area too, so make sure there's enough material there.

    Hope this helps...

TM Lewyn (possibly spelt that incorrectly) on South Anne Street are brilliant for shirts, both mens and womens.
They are more expensive than those you'd get in Dunnes etc but they are of far superior quality and last really really well. I have gotten hooked on them over the last year or so as has my husband who buys them for work.
They often have a deal on where you get 3 shirts for €90 or 5 for €120.
